Just bottled our first batch of Cabernet and it is EXCELLENT!! We will definitely be starting a new batch asap as well as experimenting with a new flavor.
To NBrewer what the heck, don’t send me 5 review stat product performance survey emails after the same ONE order! I have ordered the Exact same product from you for over a year. I obviously love the product! Stop with the “friendly FINAL notice emails! They are unnerving, who came up with that “Final” crap anyway!
This was my first wine kit and overall I was very happy with how it turned out. Completed the instructions and have the batch bottled and aging in my wine fridges.
A couple of takeaways:
- The packet most prominently labeled with "Yeast" is actually the yeast nutrient, and the smaller packet with smaller font is actually the yeast. Fortunately I caught this right after adding the yeast nutrient and proceeded to add the actual yeast.
- When racking from primary to the glass carboy for secondary fermentation, make sure to rack vigorously and be observant as the transfer is close to complete; if the fermentation is still active you will have wine and oak chips foaming out of the top. For my second batch, I waited an extra day and did not have any issues at this step.
I really like the kit. The only comment is that in some cases the instructions were confusing for me being a first time user.
