This has turned out a pretty good cider and I am not a brew guy in the least.
From the start I do wish I’d had a full 8 gallon carboy so I could make it all at once. Unfortunately I have a 1 gallon and 4 half. So I had to be very methodical and split the ingredients in half and then split them again equally between the 5 containers. In the end it was more work but not too bad. I also didn’t have an air escape thingy (not a brew guy) for the 4 smaller containers so I just used plastic wrap and a rubber band. I left it loose for the plastic to expand. It actually worked! After letting it brew for two weeks I added the sweetener. I like sweet cider but I’m thinking next time I’ll use 75-80% instead of the whole thing. It’s quite sweet (when I say 75-80% I mean that of half the packet as I was making a half batch).
Anywho I now have a 6 gallon carboy so I hope the next batch is easier for brewing. In the end it is good cider. Sweet, as I mentioned, but has a great crisp apple taste and cinnamon tones. I’m guessing it made about 28 bottles for half a batch. So should make about 60ish bottles which for the price ain’t half bad! I will probably buy again just for the implicitly over brewing beer.
Easiest cider to make friends think it's store bought the best home Brew
I made this cider with my dad who had previously used a NorthernBrewer Felix kit to make an Amber Ale. We were able to easily use this kit in his five gallon fermenting buckets. We had a slightly higher gravity due to a smaller fermenter but still tasted great. It was interesting how the cider was packaged with one side being the concentrate. After one day there was a very active fermentation. The airlock was bubbling like crazy. After racking from primary the lees had formed a very tight layer on the bottom of the bucket. No whispies or loose sediment that went into the brew. The cider cleared a lot more than we thought it would. Resulted in a good taste with slight cinnamon spice notes. Could probably even take more spice in the mix. Overall very happy with this product.
Turned out great and not too sweet, which is how I like it. Easy to make and can drink it in a week or so. It needs more of a kick (higher alcohol) so I need to experiment next time.
