I was a little hesitant due to the lack of reviews, but if you're a cider fan or a hop fan, this is a great kit. The easiest NB kit I've used to date compared to beer and wine, and the end result is great. I'm not a big cider fan, but I wanted something lighter for summer and bought this as a test. Just opened my first bottle last night and my girlfriend and I were both extremely impressed with the taste. I did over-sweeten a bit on purpose because I wanted to try it sweeter first, but next time I will back off the sweetener a bit as it is very potent, but the combination of the cider taste and hint of hops is a great mix. Just ordered my second kit because it's excellent.
The price tag for this is a little high if it's barely going to yield six bottles of cider. For first-time brewers, the instructions were incomplete and misleading. In fact, they must have been the instructions to go along with the Crooked Apple Cider starter kit, because the instructions referenced things not present in the kit. After sanitizing equipment and opening the kit, we realized bentonite was not included as suggested, so had to wait a week for it to be shipped. The instructions reference liquigel and siligel, neither of which are labelled as such in the kit. "Primary fermentation step 9: Fermentation ends after one to two weeks; exact timing depends on temp and biochem that we won't worry about right now." So when does it end? On bottling day, we ended up with a little more than half the expected yield. Did we mess up the instructions so badly that we somehow lost 5 bottles of cider? I have my doubts.
