Gelatin Finings - 1 oz
A fining agent that also reduces astringency by removing tannin. Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons.
The gelatin powder is well packaged, and after a bit of boiling (or heating >180F for a few minutes) then cooled off, works as advertised to fine cloudiness in beer or mead. Settling the mixture in the cold works better to sediment out yeast and protein haze than cold alone. No taste changes are noted.
Saving for a lighter brew than what I am making right now. Comes in a bag, not a jar.
I use this to further clear my beer and place it in my mini keg after cold crashing. Makes the beer amazingly clear and reduces chill haze. If used in conjunction with Whirlfloc - it's an awesome 1-2 punch!
First time gelatin user for my Smashing Pumpkin Ale. Used 1 tsp per instructions in 8 oz H2O at 150 degrees (to dissolve all the gelatin, but not make jello). Poured directly into secondary that I had cold crashed at 38. By far the clearest beer I have made. I will use this gelatin in all my beers from now on.
I've used this gelatin for almost all my beers - it clears and smooths out flavor! GREAT finishing agent!!!!!!!!
