How to Lager

Notes from Brad, Northern Brewer Head Brewer:

Thanks to Imperial Yeast, we are proud to offer this recipe kit formulated around the Mexican lager yeast strain Que Bueno. What is otherwise a simple pilsner-style beer is taken to the next level with this impressively clean and crisp lager yeast. The key to brewing this beer is all about the yeast - pitching a large amount of yeast and ensuring it is provided proper fermentation temperatures will make this a truly memorable beer. While Imperial Yeast does provide 200 billion cells in each package, making a yeast starter or pitching multiple packs of yeast is recommended for the best results. If you prefer to use dry yeast, that's cool too, as the same recommendations still apply. This beer may take a while to make, but the end result is worth it. If you have the patience to let this beer lager for the full 4 weeks as outlined in the instructions, you will end up with a bright, clean, clear, crisp lager with minimal esters and a satisfying dry finish. Kick back, soak up the sun and bask in the glory of your delicious homemade Mexican-style lager.

1st Time Lager

I decided to up my experience by brewing a Lager and kegging for the first time. It has been an experience I can tell you. But with the help from Northern Brewer, especially Jeremy I am in the carbonation process now. The sample I drew while transferring to the keg was exceptional, my wife is anxiously waiting for her first pint. I have already ordered a second kit that is scheduled to arrive today. I should only have to wait a couple weeks after I drink the first batch to enjoy the next batch.

Just average

Decided to keep a lager in the kegerator, as many of our guests prefer the lagers over IPAs and Stouts. It’s not great it’s definitely not bad, it’s just average. Again it’s simply a matter of choice. Happy Brewing

Makes a nice amber colored lager

I brewed this Cerveza pretty much per the instructions except that I spiked it with two shots of tequila when it went into the first stage fermenter. I did a second stage fermenter, which cleared it up well, and ended up with 5% alcohol. It's in bottles now, so I'll need to wait to see how it turns out, but it tasted good (flat, but nothing unpleasant). It does seem to have more hops than I would expect from a Cerveza, but I think it will be an excellent batch.
