Off the Topper IIPA All Grain Beer Recipe Kit
Impossible to track down and destined to be drank from a can, this brew is a tribute to the infamous man with a head full of hops and the tenacious Alchemists that are its creators. Brew this elusive IIPA yourself with our recipe kit.
Intense hop aroma blows through with hurricane force, swirling up from a whirlwind of hazy liquid gold. Borne from a legendary Noraster, Off the Topper is a writhing tropical storm of fruity pineapple and dank piney-peach.
In a true work of sorcery, the Off the Topper IIPA beer kit creates synergy between Vermont yeast and an unprecedented flood of lupulin. Overcoming its intense origins, it is a rare, harmonious pint that is extreme only in its drinkability. Beneath the frothing, massive head lies a beacon of freshness and light in each pint. At the eye of the storm is a dry and crisp body. A complex and delicious Imperial IPA, Off the Topper balances bitterness with well-attenuated yeast that work together to weather the hurricane of hops.
Preparing a yeast starter is highly recommended when using the Vermont Ale Liquid Yeast. This will help reduce the lag time before fermentation begins.

Another great clone recipe from NB! Had fun brewing it and thought it turned out great! As with any clone recipe it may not turn out to be exactly like the real deal but a lot of that also depends on your brewing process and abilities not to mention water chemistry plays a huge role. Every NB clone recipe I have tried while maybe not exactly like the original they have all been great beers! I actually would like to see more NB clone recipes and maybe some lower octane ones.
This tastes more like a standard Alchemist IPA than Heady. I would define it more as a Vermont IPA than a NEIPA or a West Coast.
I used Imperial Barbarian and made a generic starter to ensure that there was enough fire power going into the wort. This left me with plenty of peachy/stone fruit esters that Barbarian is known for.
I would make it again, but I would experiment with different hopping schedules.
If I never had a fresh can of Heady Topper, I’d probably give this recipe 5 stars. As good as this kit is, its not Heady Topper and I can’t say it’s even reminiscent of the real thing. Maybe it’s my brewing technique, but I've got a fairly advance system, use RO water and brewing salt calculator, and control temperature during fermentation. If you haven’t had Heady Topper and like NEIPAs, you’ll love this kit. If you have had Heady Topper and like NEIPAs, you’ll be momentarily disappointed, but you’ll still enjoy this kit.
I have bought this several times an have never been disappointed. Recently I was able to get a few cans of the real deal an did a “Pepsi challenge “ with it vs my clone most preferred mine. Only difference is that it has a darker color an does not hae the same finish. The clone does not have that sour finish.
This is a great recipe kit. Not only was this the first time I had brewed an all grain in a couple of years, but it was the first time I'd used Northern Brewer, and it went off without a hitch - from brewing, to fermentation, adding dry hops, etc, and the taste of the beer is phenomenal! Highly recommend this product - met (and exceeded) all expectations!
