Because of some remodeling we stopped brewing our own Kombucha for about 14 months. When we were ready to start again, we faced the need for a SCOBY. While ordering a couple of beer kits, I decided to give this kit a try and do NOT regret it at all! The Lychee Black tea and special honey sugar supplied made for some wonderful tasting Kombucha and the SCOBY worked perfectly to get us back on track. Two things, 1) I found the instructions called for too much water, so I cut back to my time proven recipe (3 qt Water, and 1 cup sugar and the tea.) 2) A few months later I ordered the larger Kombucha kit -but, I didn’t read close enough and found that it did NOT come with the Lychee Black tea AND honey sugar. I was very disappointed, but, it was my fault for not reading closely enough.
This kit worked perfectly. Our first batch was ready in a week and we've continued using the SCOBY from the kit. Thanks!
Not as fragrant as the description would suggest, but it's decent kombucha. Bottle with some julienned ginger or galangal. Try some kaffir lime leaves in a bottle and wait until they sink to sample. Same with lemon basil. Any of the above will add to the somewhat anemic flavor profile.
This kombucha came out great. The tea has wonderful flavors that combine very will with the honey sugar blend given.
A week or so in fermentation and this was ready to drink, smooth and floral.
This kombucha is the best. I want to make it again!
