Product details

A highly flocculent Norwegian kveik ale strain that has an astoundingly wide temperature range (62F-98F) with little difference in flavor profile across the whole range. Temperature control is unnecessary with this strain. It has a unique fruitiness that makes it complementary to modern hop varieties. This just may be the perfect yeast for warmer climates or those hot summer months. Hothead is a proprietary strain that you will not find anywhere else. Non-phenolic and no fusels, even at higher temperatures.

*NOTE:*During summer months, we include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeast orders. However, it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will stay frozen given transit times and particularly hot temperatures. For this reason, we recommend ordering dry yeast during summer months.

Pretty Much Foolproof!

And, being a fool, I oughtta know. OYL-057 HotHead is the most "forgiving" yeast I've ever used. To say I do not have "optimal conditions" for brewing would be a massive understatement. The temperature in the room that I'm forced to use for fermentation can be as low as 60 degrees or as high as 82 or 83, depending on the time of year and several other factors. OYL-057 just laughs at all that and turns out a great batch every time. It doesn't add any weird colors to the taste either. The only thing I'd say is that at the lower end of the temperature scale, fermentation is noticeable slower and you might want to use a starter.

I live in Florida and just sat the fermenter outside but covered. It fermented extremely fast and active. I just poured my first with it and the flavor is great. I would use it if your waffling
