Omega Yeast 017 Kolsch
True top cropping yeast strain from a traditional brewery in Cologne, Germany. Beers will exhibit some of the fruity character of an ale, with a clean lager like profile. It produces low or no detectable levels of diacetyl. May also be used to produce quick-conditioning pseudo-lager beers and ferments well at cold 55-60°F range. This powdery strain results in yeast that remain in suspension post fermentation and requires filtration or additional settling time to produce bright beers. However, if you lack the equipment to brew a true lager, the Kolsch strain is a fantastic alternative for lager-like recipes.
*NOTE:*During summer months, we include complimentary ice packs will all liquid yeast orders. However, it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will stay frozen given transit times and particularly hot temperatures. For this reason, we recommend ordering dry yeast during summer months.

This is the first liquid yeast I have used, and I was nervous. No need to be. No starter needed (unless you've sat on it for a few months). Really easy to use slurry. Just bring to room temp for a few hours before you pitch. Shake, and pitch. That's it. Really active too - airlock was bubbling nicely just 5 hours later.
Gave an excellent flavor when done and was crystal clear by the end of Fermentation.
I thought I'd try out this new yeast, and man was I glad I did !! Even with 150,000,000,000 yeast cells contained in the packet, I created more yeast in my stir pot. Five days later they finally stopped eating !! I never had a yeast last that long, maybe 2 1/2 days at most. My Kolsch is still lagering (another 2 weeks) and I can't wait to try it out. I'll get back and let you know.
Very fresh yeast. It started fermenting immediately. It came packaged in an insulated bubble pack. It's been working for a week now
