Product details

A quick disconnect with 1/2" NPT threads works with the male version (either 40854 or 40857). Just press down on the female disconnect spring-loaded band and place the male disconnect in position, then release the band to lock it.

Easily switch lines between fittings with this stainless steel quick disconnect.

Can be used with hot or cold liquids up to 60 psi.

Use caution when transferring hot liquids - the stainless disconnect will get hot to the touch.

Good

I use NB quick disconnects for all of my tubing. They are durable, efficient and a heck of a lot better than screwing in barbed nipples.

Bad design

These leak, especially at lower temperatures. I used them for a RIMS system and would either drip slowly or just spray wort everywhere. It is difficult to get a good seal with these. I ended up replacing them with SS camlocks, which work very well.

Excellent

I have 4 sets of these stainless quick connects; they work perfectly and clean very well. Of course, quick connects of any kind should not be connected completely dry — I use a thin layer of brewers grease which helps them connect easily, seat properly, and seal without leaking. I use them to connect my mash tun, grant, and pumps for re-circulation, mash out, and transfers.

Leaks...

I have had 2 of these quick connects leak. I have others that do not leak, but I am concerned that over time they will all leak. The male barb does not seat tightly against the washer creating a significant leaking issue. I am thinking about ditching this idea all together and just deal with pushing hoses onto fixed barbs. Not happy.

Richard,

We do have the replacements on the way for you.
