Product details

A strong, pitch black beer with tan head, resounding with burnt, bitter chocolate character, hops, syrupy malt, and a warming alcohol note. A nice companion on a cold winter night or accompanying chocolate dessert.

Imperial stouts were first brewed in England for export to the royal courts of the Russian Tsars. The Tsars are gone but the beer remains, the "War and Peace" of stouts. This kit yields a pitch black beer with tan head, resounding with burnt, bitter chocolate character, hops, and syrupy malt. A viscous, chewy body finishing with lots of roast grain and a warming alcohol note. A nice companion on a cold winter night or accompanying chocolate dessert.

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Delivered to spec and turned out well. Added a tincture with pasilla peppers, cocoa nibs, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon. Whether it worked or not we will find out after finishing. Wickedly strong and black as night, I can say that already now.

Imperial stout

Just brewed the imperial Stout yesterday. It is black! Smells wonderful. I put the grain out in my driveway when finished and a half a dozen deer were there before it cooled off. They’re pretty find of it too!

This came out great. I used my Anvil Foundry 10.5 and I let the beta amylase saccarification go for half an hour instead of the recommended 10 minutes, and I ended up with a higher gravity than my first attempt with this kit. I also used Omega Labs Lutra Kveik and it fermented amazingly fast (I drank the first bottle 2 weeks after brewing!). I plan to use this kit again when I next brew an Imperial Stout.
