Green Widow™ Hop Spider
Designed for brewers, by brewers.
Sludge in your boil kettle is now a thing of the past. The Green Widow™ hop spider allows for massive hop additions, spices, herbs, or anything else you can imagine adding to the boil.
Integrated hooks allow the Green Widow to hang over the edge of your kettle into the wort. The rubberized handle makes for easy removal and doubles as a hanger for storage. Constructed with a tough stainless steel frame and heavy duty 400 micron stainless steel mesh, the Green Widow will stand up to even the hoppiest IPA.
- 400 micron stainless steel mesh will keep hop trub and other kettle additions out of the final wort.
- Rubberized insulating handle for protection from heat.
- 14" tall by 6" diameter basket size - perfect size for circulation.
- Built in hooks to hang on the kettle edge.
- Capacity volume of 1 Ib. pellet hops.
the Hop Spider appears to be of very high quality.
My problem, however, is that there's no way to adjust how high it hangs (or low). I use an electric BIAB setup with a kettle big enough for ten gallon batches. I normally do five gallon batches. At the beginning of the boil, when the wort is high, the hop spider reaches the wort. As the wort boils down, however, the Spider does not reach the wort, making it fairly useless to me. If the hangars were adjustable it would help a lot. I'm back to hop bags while I try to figure out a way to hang this thing lower.
It works really well and cuts down on all the sludge. Had no problem bottling. The bottle filler did not plug. Only downside for me was the Spider was a little large for my brew kettle.
I love the Green Widow for hopping my batches. It works perfectly, and cleans up simply with the sprayer on the faucet. All I need now is a version to use for dry hopping.
Works great. Keeps all of that hop debris nice and contained which results in a clean liquid for my carboy
