Tilt™ - Orange Digital Hydrometer and Thermometer
The Tilt Wireless Hydrometer and Thermometer is at the cutting edge of new digital devices made specifically for the homebrewing community. This free-floating gadget acts as both a real-time gravity testing hydrometer and thermometer from inside your fermenter during fermentation.
Being able to check your fermentation status from your compatible Apple iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Tilt Pi and most Bluetooth 4.0+ Bluetooth devices means virtually no susceptibility to contamination or oxygen pickup in your fermenter. Data can be saved automatically to the cloud with free Google Sheets template or your own, favorite 3rd party cloud platform.
Tilt comes calibrated and fully-assembled with a pre-installed battery. Download the free app, sanitize the unit, drop into the fermenter and start tracking your readings with your synced device.
Multiple Unit Users: If using more than one Tilt Hydrometer and Thermometer at a time, you must use a different color Tilt for each batch. Apps will not read multiple hydrometers of the same color. Northern Brewer offers 8 different colors for multiple, simultaneous fermentations.
No additional information.
Range: Ability to send data through large, thick-walled fermenters.
Precision: Specific gravity is accurate within +/- 0.002 if brewing in the range of .990 - 1.120. Thermometer is accurate within +/- 1 degree fahrenheit.
Universal: Works in most standard carboys, corny kegs, refrigerators, stainless steel fermenters, even under pressure!
great way to track fermentation, i had to by another so i can track 2 beers at once.
Great device to check SG, much quicker and more sanitary than a conventional hydrometer.
The Tilt is in my first batch that I have brewed using it. It is not finished at the time of this review. There was a discrepancy between the Tilt and my refractometer OG of 3 points. Refractometer 1.056 vs Tilt 1.053. This may be due to not calibrating either of them. The Tilt has given me an exact temp reading to my Inkbird controller with probe taped to the side of my SS Brewtec fermenter. It sinks up quickly and has been tracking my beer for the last two weeks. It’s nice to see its progress and not have to rely on wasting a sample using my hydrometer. So far so good.
Can you do without it? Absolutely. But even though you can't rely on the device for definitive measurements I find it valuable (and very cool) to be able to monitor and log my fermentation progress without drawing samples. Works great with my stainless fermenter.
Just used for the first time and it works really well, only issue I have is that my fermenter is stainless so I have to be close by to check progress. The logging function is awesome if your a data geek like me, you can track and graph fermentation and develop profiles. Overall I am very pleased and they have options to geek out your setup even more!
