Added my own grapes to the mix. Had some trouble siphoning but was not insurmountable. Good kit with clear instructions.
This was a pretty solid cabernet sauvignon in terms of taste, the only criticism is it was lacking a tannin flavor and mouthfeel. I would recommend adding in additional tannins through your preferred method prior to the primary fermentation phase.
This turned out to be quite nice for a kit. It was a little lacking in body but was fairly easy to make. I will get it again.
the order came quickly, the instructions were strait forward. The wine has a good taste. The reason for 4 stars is one of the liquid additives had become gummy, and seemed a bit dried out and the package was puffy. Since I was half way through the process I uses the additive. I tasted the wine as I bottled it and it seemed fine. I will give it a month or so and open a bottle to see if it is still ok.
We really enjoyed this Cab. It is our 3rd batch. It is the first time using this particular supplier. We were slightly concerned because the instructions for this kit are simpler than the other two recipes we did in the past and this one included three different packets of wood chips. However I really like the simplified steps with this kit. The wood added a nice element to the flavor and we will buy this one again. We decided to do a twist with this batch. One of the bottles we used was a Lagavulin 16yr old Scotch. We did not clean the bottle and left just a millimetre or two of scotch in the bottom. The wine out of that bottle was fantastic! It drank like a cab and smelled oakey smokey and was full bodied like a scotch.
