Product Details
Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage brewed since ancient times. Although the exact origins are relatively unknown, the process has remained unchanged. A Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) ferments a sweet tea mixture to produce a refreshing, yet tart, tea beverage.

Unlike other starter kits, EverBru™ includes the SCOBY culture! Plus, when properly cared for, the SCOBY will last (and grow) for many batches to come. Kombucha is easy to brew in under an hour. But the real fun comes through added flavorings such as fruit or spices. The possibilities are endless. Start brewing healthy and refreshing Kombucha Tea today. Designed for 1 Gallon batches.

Kit Includes:
  • Little Big Mouth Bubbler® Glass Fermenter

  • Fermagraf°™ Adhesive Thermometer

Nice starter kit, everything included!
Very easy to set up and start making your first Kombucha. Instructions were easy to follow, and the results were tasty. If you plan to re-use your SCOBY from your first batch, be careful to sanitize everything, and use a new sheet of cloth to cover it. Kombucha is very low ABV%, and a little mote of mold can easily get into the culture, and overtake it. I made the mistake of re-using my cloth, and it must have had a spore on it. My bad.

Great start to Kumbuchu brewing!!!
An excellent way to start the brewing experience. We've done three batches so far. One with green jasmine tea. Great instructions too. The wine kit is next for us. Many thanks.

I recommend this product.
Tried my first batch. Was a little impatient. Only fermented 7 days. Turned out OK though. Bottled and flavored with mango/cayenne pepper. (definitely recommend) and cherries/almond extract. Easy to use and clean. Will let my next batch ferment longer. Looking for a little more tartness.

Nice little kit
Nice little kit. Amazing how easy kombucha is to make. The one gallon fermenter is really nice too. Maybe I'll use it for some small batch beers down the road.

Great hobby kick starter! But materials could be altered.
I got this for Christmas after I got really interested in kombucha tea and I've been Brewing it up since then. After buying a book on it I realized that this starter kit is great for starting a new hobby, but there are some flaws.
The instructions are a little off on the process and I wish there were more details. Unless you're Brewing big batches, the siphon isn't really necessary. A ladle works fine. A small heating pad would be more useful to throw in there rather than the siphon. The booch needs to be warm and cozy :) You don't want to use that fermenter's sugar, evaporated cane juice is a recommended. Cheese/butter cloth is also not recommended, need something more tightly woven. I cut up an old t-shirt.
I gave this a 4 because it kickstarted a hobby, which I appreciate-- but I recommend some changes for future kombucha enthusiasts wanting to brew.

Response from Northern Brewer
Thanks for the review. We are happy to hear that we kickstarted your Kombucha journey! Even though there are many types of material that will work as a Kombucha cover (Nice re-use on the old shirt, BTW), our testing and suggestion of the Butter Muslin (tighter weave than cheese cloth) works great to keep all bad things out of your ferment, especially the fruit flies that might be after your tasty treat.
As far as sugar, Corn Sugar might take a little bit longer to ferment, but provides a "thicker" taste (in the way we like our beer). It works great with the EverBru Kit to deliver quality Kombucha. The siphon is included to help with the bottling process, or even for sampling throughout the process.
Kombucha does like warm environments, so finding a warmer spot in your home can be beneficial. I keep mine on top of the fridge. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service team. Cheers, Todd J

Upon arrival, should I store scoby in fridge?
CESAR A on Jan 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Your SCOBY is alive and ready for use. We suggest higher temperatures for storage. 70-85 degrees is ideal.
Is kombucha safe for diabetics?
A shopper on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Sure, why not? The various health claims attributed to Kombucha are ones that can be of interest to diabetics, though some are still unproven. Googling "Kombucha and Diabetes" will bring up several articles about this. I'm not a physician, though, so it would be a good idea to consult your doctor if there is a concern about it's safety with any medical condition.
Got my kit, got my spring water, made my tea and put my little square scabby in, it went to the bottom and after 3 days its doubled in size and still on the bottom, my house stays at 72 is this normal?
A shopper on Oct 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, your scoby will continue to grow, and a new one will form on top. You can use this (when it has grown sufficiently) to start another batch or share it with a friend. We have three batches of kombucha from our original.
Got my kit, got my spring water, made my tea and poured in my little square scoby. Three days later my scoby is about double in size and laying on the bottom, is this normal? My house stays at 72 degrees.
Jeffery H on Oct 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure if it's "normal" but that is what happened to me. By the time the second batch was done it had floated up and attached itself to floating scoby that formed during the first batch. Enjoy your kombucha adventures!
does this Kombucha kit come with the liquid starter?
A shopper on Aug 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it comes with a starter SCOBY in its own liquid (that's the white-ish package on the left side of the picture of the kit). You have to brew the tea though, that you put the SCOBY in; but the kit includes everything you need to get started except for a pot for boiling the tea and the water for the tea.
is this scoby enough for 2 batches (of 1 gallon each)?
Ramesh S on Sep 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi, yes, there is plenty of tea and sugar for at least 2 or 3 batches. Really all you're making is sweet tea and then adding the SCOBY to it. You just re-use your SCOBY from the previous batch. They SCOBY will grow also, so eventually you could make more than one batch at a time, if you had more than one fermenting container.
What bottles do you recommend for kombucha?
A shopper on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 16oz (or larger) swing-top bottles.
Will Kombucha ferment if chlorinated water is used?
Carl G on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It depends on how chlorinated and I don't know where that line is exactly. I had good results filtering my tap water, but you can also bring water to a rolling boil for at least 10 minutes to remove any chlorine.
Is the little big mouth bubbler plastic or glass?
A shopper on Dec 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They have both plastic and glass carboys, however the one included in the kit looks to be glass. Glass is recommended for kombucha.
how much alcohol is produced?
A shopper on Dec 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't think any alcohol is produced, maybe trace amounts. What you get is kombucha tea, helps the belly out after the alcohol
I know kombucha is typically gluten-free, but are the products in this particular set gluten-free as well?
A shopper on Jul 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This kit is packed in our warehouse that we also have grains. While there is nothing in this kit that contains gluten, we can not call it gluten free.
I ordered this and the SCOBY came partially frozen. Is it still good?
A shopper on Dec 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If a SCOBY/Starter Culture happens to freeze in the course of transit, allow it to thaw gently at room temperatures. It should make great kombucha!
what is kombucha? never heard of it
A shopper on Dec 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Kombucha is a fermented, lightly effervescent sweetened tea traditionally made with black, but can be made with green, white, and some other types of teas. A combination of tea, sugar and SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) used to convert the sugar over the course of 7-10 days. There is a laundry list of health benefits and the Kombucha. Once fermented it can be drank flat or added to grolsch style bottles by itself or with fruits or other additives for 2-4 days to add carbonation at room temperature before refrigerating to stop the conversion of sugars to CO2 thus avoiding over-carbonation.
What is the alcohol %?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From what I've read it can contain 1% or less ABV
