I've used them for over 15 years, at both of their locations in Minneapolis and St Paul, MN as well as through mail order. I've always been entirely satisfied.. They are a good value as well as the highest of quality. In person, the staff is completely knowledgeable and could not be more welcoming and helpful. It's ironic that a home/craft brew centered business is owned by mega brewer AB Inbev, but they obviously saw a good business and grabbed it. Usually, I make a starter in a 5L flask, but lately, I’ve been taken 100 g of DME, 1L of water, cook it up in a pan (boil for 5 minutes) with a pinch of yeast nutrient, chill it, and put it right into my fermenting bucket the day before brewing with the yeast. Then I just pour my chilled wort right on top of it (actually it trickles out of my counterflow chiller). It’s good for your low ABV% beers. This DME does the trick for me every time! Was this review helpful? Yes (0) No (0) Flag as Inappropriate November 14, 2015Jesse T. Was this review helpful? Northern Brewer's product description was accurate. The DME came fresh and it worked well in my recipe. I have noticed active fermentation. As i poured the DME into the kettle the steam caused some of the DME to coagulate around the edge of the bag which got a little stick. Not a big deal but something to watch out for.Was this review helpful? Yes (0) No (0) Flag as Inappropriate October 18, 2013Steven Was this review helpful? It gives a great grainy taste to the beer. I was so impressed with my barleywine, I shared it with some friends from my local homebrew shop. They thought it was excellent! I made it again this year and it's been conditioning 7 months now. I will enter it into the local barleywine contest in December. Based on last years results, the judges said I have a great chance of winning. Use it in any beer style as a base malt. You won't be disappointed. Was this review helpful? If I would repackage this in smaller amount and vacuum seal the bags would I get a good year storage with this product? A shopper on Apr 15, 2017 BEST ANSWER: Yes and probably longer than a year. Just be aware if you are using a Seal-a-Meal type device when it sucks out all the air it will bring some of the very light DME with it and you may not get a proper seal. I would just divide it up in good quality zip locks or plastic screw on lid containers.
