FROTHING THERMOMETER
The shaft is pretty short. Didn't reach the liquid when I brewed a kit in a 10 gal pot. It should work ok for whole grain when the pot is full. It does appear to be set for critical temperature range for mashing.

forget glass, forget breakage
I broke my first glass thermometer before I finished my first boil... knocked it on the floor. After research I went with this one as a more durable and practical replacement. Really really like the clip that allows me to hang it on the kettle. I now have realtime ongoing temp info; I'm not dipping the glass thermometer in and out again and again. Can't speak to its accuracy but I think I'll have to be a heck of a lot more experienced brewer before I need anything fancier than this.

Accurate at boil
Tis thermometer is accurate at boil temperature, but I wouldn't trust it at room temperature for hydrometer adjustments.

The thermometer also fell into my boil and no liquid got inside of it, so that is a plus.

Great tool
Nothing helps get a job done right like accurate tools. This thermometer really helped.

Works well.
For the price it did the job. I checked its accuracy against other Thermometers I have and it was right on.

Failed After 3 Years
After calibrating worked accurately for 3 years, then suddenly stopped working (doesn't go over 40 degrees now).

When I read the fine print on this guy you can't leave it in boiling water for extended periods of time, so that was sort of a letdown. And it's shorter than I need, always had to manually dip it in with my hands to get an accurate reading. Basically too much manual operation when my desire is a thermometer I can just stick on the side of the pot and read when I want.

Would consider buying another one of these but I'm opting for a longer thermometer for its replacement. Unfortunately have to order from Amazon, as Northern Brewer doesn't have any longer thermometers in stock.

Good thermometer, a little short.
Works well for my needs. The only negative thing I could say is that I wish it was longer. When attached toy pot it does not reach the wort level.

Needed some tweaking
The thermometer that I received did not go into water in the kettle, I measured multiple times. Most extract kits I have done tell you to start with 2 1/2 gallons of water, well the thermometer did not reach into the water. However, all I had to do was to bend the little mount thing and walla, good to go. Good thermometer for the price.

Does what it is supposed too.
The probe is a hair short (just doesn't each work in a 5 gallon kettle for extract batches) but otherwise seems accurate and fast.

Hi, do you have this thermometer in C instead of F?

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we only have this one reading in Fahrenheit.
