Pinot Noir
So far so good, it's still working in secondary fermentation. This is my first time making wine with juice. In the fall I crush and press my grapes to make wine, the kit gives me an opportunity to make different wines in the off season. The fermentation process works well with the wood stove cranking to heat the house during the New England winter.

I love Pinot for red wine. I've been here before. Bought this kit, folowed directions, 48 hours after adding yeast there was little activity at about 65F. Paniked! Got some dry yeast and added to the must, Magic!! At that point I was at 1.102 SG. +5days at 1.041, added nutrient. +3 wks added chips, transferred., SG1.002. +4.5 wks, SG .997, bottled. Really good, and I MADE IT! 5 Gallons! Best guess on ABV, 13.5.

Not too bad
It's a little heavier and and little sweeter than i would have liked but over all it's a good basic wine from a box. I think i'll let it bottle age for several months hopefully it will develop the flavors a bit more

1st time wine makers
we purchased the starter kit and the Pinot Noir. the kit came with two packages of yeast nutrient and there was a little confusion on our part if that was the right yeast to start from. the wine masters answered my email and we had a phone conversation to help us get started on the right foot. very pleased with the equipment and the assistance whenever we called.

no activity in the air lock after 48 hrs ?
Dean V on Mar 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This will ferment for a good week so you may have a leak in lid so the co2 is venting at some other opening instead of air lock. If fermentation is stalled , this could be many things, most common is temperature, this ferments between 70 & 80 F and its most active pushing 80
Can I add pomegranate extract ?
Ron D on Feb 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You probably can, amount is going to be critical.
That would probably be petty tasty, let me know when you get it figured out.
Probably best time to add it, would be during secondary fermentation
The product description mentions aging with oak. So how much and for how long would you recommend? (oak chips I'm assuming...)
A shopper on Mar 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: May have answered this already but I see a slightly different question here. I choose Master Vintner kits for the drinkability at a good price and the recommendation that the wine need not be aged to obtain its finish. This may be a slightly finer kit than I have used and so do not have experience with aging after secondary fermentation or in the bottle.
Can you keg this wine?
A shopper on Jan 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can keg anything with water in it. It just makes it sparkling wine. If you use pressurized Nitrogen though, it will allow the wine on draft without the carbonation.
Can I add pomegranate extract to this wine?
A shopper on Feb 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I believe that it will work fine
Does this come with yeast and additives?
A shopper on Dec 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it comes with yeast and needed additives. Cheers!
Is this the same Pinot Noir offered in the Master Vinters One Gallon Kit?
christopher l. on Feb 15, 2016

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! This is the same Pinot Noir as the small batch kits, just scaled up to 6 gallons. I hope that this helps!
