Product details

A very strong beverage, sack is the mead equivalent of a late-harvest icewine or a barley wine. A viscous and intense sipping experience. Includes Wyeast 4184 Sweet Mead Yeast. OG: 1.120-1.123. Time to make: 4 months minimum.

NB Artisanal Mead Kits. Based on Ames Farm amazing honey, these are simple, uncluttered traditional meads designed to let the honey shine through. Because the floral sources and composition of Ames Farm honey will change with the season and years, and are dependent on variables like hive placement and weather, every batch of these kits will be unique.

Each mead making kit is available in two sizes - three gallon or five gallon.

Sack Mead Kit

I haven't made this yet; waiting for cooler weather to ferment! Everything came in a timely fashion. This has a new yeast for me so am anxious to try it!

Cleanliness pays off

I 'brewed' this in mid January 2017 and had an Sg of 1.126. It's now early September and the Sg is 1.044 and hasn't changed in about 6 weeks. I'm still going to let it sit since I'm no rush to bottle it. I've also decided to bottle it in small 7 ounce bottles cuz it's potent stuff at 10.5% and it's definitely a sipping beverage. I recently discovered that Corona sells their Coronita Extra in HEAVY 7 ounce bottles, so I've been slowly 'collecting' those bottles and eventually, I'll have enough to bottle most of the Mead in those small bottles. I have no signs of mold or infection or anything. So far, so good.

Mead kit was great but it was a total loss

This was my fourth mead kit and the others have always turned out great. But through my error this batch was a total loss. Somehow I didn't get my equipment clean enough and had green mold floating on the top of the beautiful must and had to dump the whole batch. So, lesson learned, even after years of wine and beer making attention to detail still is essential.
