Do i need anything else besides this product to produce a batch?
F R on Aug 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There are a few things you may want. Mainly, how to serve the beer. You will want either bottling tools or kegging tools. You would want a CO2 tank, regulator, hoses, and probably some kegs to serve the brew in a fridge from keg. Otherwise, a bottling bucket, bottle capper, autosiphon and tubing, and a bottling wand.
If I wanted to do a batch every week would I just use my existing carboys or would I buy more kegs? how do you remove the yeast and trub from the keg? Is it a proprietary keg?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You could use any type of fermentor you want, but I just use the keg since it's easy. It is a normal 5g ball lock keg, but th dip tube is cut short. This leaves the trub at the bottom.
I'm liking the idea of simplifying my brew days and stream lining my pile of equipment, my wife's chief complaint with the hobby. I use a plate chiller, and would likely use some smaller pales or carboys that I could control temps for in a smaller dorm type fridge. Would there be any issues fitting additional devices with ball lock connectors to add versatility? I don't brew as often as I'd like in large part because my five gallon batches last a long time for me. I make decent beer and have won a few awards, not sure if this is cheating or not, but I'd like to add better repeatability into my reps too.
A shopper on May 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Many of the concerns you bring up are reasons people consider this automated system. You would be able to devise a system to chill the beer with your plate chiller, but not really in the zymatic system. They recommend chilling by letting sit over night or using an immersion chiller or placing in a fridge.
Where does the beer ferment? Inside the machine, or in the keg? Or do you use a carboy?
A shopper on Mar 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: With this device, you are fermenting the beer inside the keg.
How long before you are able to drink the beer? Is it weeks still?
Scott D on Mar 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You do want to let the beer ferment and condition and so the fermentation process remains the same. You can hurry some beers and have it bottled/kegged in 1-2 weeks, but for most cases, you want to wait more like 2-6 weeks. Cheers!
After frementing, do you still have to wait weeks before drinking?
A shopper on Mar 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: After the beer is fermented, you can bottle it normally, or keg it up, if you have a keg system with CO2 regulator. If it's bottled, you'd want to wait a few weeks for it to carbonate in the bottles; if kegged it could be ready much faster than that. Many beers will benefit from some additional aging time, but others are very much ready to drink not long after the fermenting has been completed. -Mike W, Northern Brewer
How many pounds of grain does the product hold and is it capable of making larger than the 2.5 gallon batch listed?
G G on Sep 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It maxes out near 9 pounds of grain. You can only make about 2.5 gallons at a time, but it is very easy to do a double batch and this takes like no work because of its automation.
