Product Details
Potassium metabisulfite is one of the most important winemaking compounds. It is an antioxidant and bactericide that releases sulfur dioxide into wine must. Use 1/4 teaspoon per five gallons to add 50 ppm. Or, mix 1/4 pound in 1 quart of water to make a stock solution; 1 teaspoon of stock solution in one gallon of must yields 50 ppm sulfur dioxide.

Successful Cider
I have used this Potassium Metabisulfite on 5 batches of Cider with good results. I use this product with a very large start in freshly pressed sweet cider with good results. Avoid already souring sweet cider in your hard ciders.

BEST ANSWER: You should have used Potassium Metabisulfite in the clearing step just before you bottle with your clearing agents and Potassium sorbate, so no just sanitize bottles and equipment used in racking and bottling.
Just follow your directions with the Kit if it had direction.

BEST ANSWER: Just dissolve 1/8 teaspoon in 2 oz of water and stir in to wine
How is this a different product than the Campden tablets?

Why so much cheaper for this product?
E R on Jan 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello Erik,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! The Campden tablets are of the same chemical composition as the powder potassium metabisulfite. They are simply potassium metabisulfite pressed into a tablet form. The reason that the potassium metabisulfite is cheaper than the campden tablets is that the potassium metabisulfite is does not go through the tablet production line. I hope that this answers your questions! Have a great day!
