Product details

Dead Ringer® is a larger-than-life American IPA beer kit with a hop aroma so thick you can almost see it. American base malt and crystal malt create the big body and supporting grainy sweetness, while charge after charge of 100% Centennial hops deliver pronounced bitterness with a dominant citrus aroma and flavor. In the glass you get a pale amber color, hop intensity and malt density - substance with the soul of a session beer. This IPA recipe kit has been a customer favorite for a decade.

Dead Ringer® is an homage to a benchmark of the American IPA style that's brewed in Michigan.

The perfect small batch size for the 3 Gallon FastFerment.

Tasting Notes:

  • Flavor: Rich maltiness with a moderate caramel flavor. Medium-high bitterness with citrus, floral and slightly earthy notes.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate creaminess and medium carbonation leaving a smooth finish.

Notes from Brad, Northern Brewer Head Brewer:

"Dead Ringer is our way of paying tribute to one of the most iconic IPAs in America. In the upper Midwest (and many other parts of the country), this beer is a mainstay of aficionados. A simple malt bill and hearty doses of Centennial creates magic with only 2 malts and 1 hop variety. The resulting product is awash in hop aroma, while not overpowering the malt component. Aromas of citrus fruits and floral notes dominate, while the rich malt character in the background offers a perfectly balanced pint. When finished and carbonated, share with another and there will be two hearts with ample joy!"

Dead ringer

Brewed this as my first small (2 gal) brew. Very hoppy only downside was yeast package needed to be adjusted so it was iffy whether I would get it right.

Two Two Gallon IPA Extract Kits

After several one gallon beer kits (from another supplier) I decided to up my game and keg my beer. Since my beer fridge can only handle 2.5 gallon kegs, and I wanted to keep my stove top operation as simple as possible I went looking for 2-3 gallon beer kits. I found two extract kits at NB that looked good. The first one brewed was “Zombie Dust”. I’m not sure if I made a mistake while brewing (very possible) or it’s just not the West Coast IPA flavor profile I favor, in any case it is quite drinkable. The second one up was “Dead Ringer”. It’s been in the keg for one week now and I just sampled it. It is much closer to the flavor I prefer and very tasty. I am very satisfied with their product and service. I just ordered the ingredients for a “Lucille” clone from a recipe I found online.

Good tasting beer

Only my second brew, I made a number of mistakes that made this brew less than perfect, but it still came out tasting good. Now with what I've learned I'm sure the next attempt will be much better. Will buy again.
