Gigawort™ Electric Brew Kettle
Used during cold weather for extract recipes. Works well when boiling limited amounts of liquid extract (3 lbs). Trends to be overwhelmed when adding additional liquid extract (total 6 lbs or more). Difficult to prevent burning at the base with the larger amount of liquid extract..
So far I’ve done 2 batches and both have gone very well. Mash water heats up quick, like others the temps bounces around alittle bit but it does pretty good to keep them temp, temp raises to boil quickly and the boils is always vigorous. My only real complaint is the water level marks are off. When I put in 2 gals of water, it shows to be near 2.5 gal so it’s roughly .5gal off. I haven’t done any extract/partial extract brews so I haven’t had any issues like some, even though it’s designed for extract/partial, I’ve always used it for all grain BIAB and it works great.
I have brewed three extract batches in my new Gigawort.
Sadly, using a liquid malt extract was a disaster.
The Gigawort has a safety shutoff to keep the heater from running when empty( nice feature as it keeps you from trashing the heater if you accidentally turn it on w/o any water). Problem is that when you add the liquid malt you really need to turn off the kettle or the malt burns onto the bottom and this triggers the shutoff feature (eith an E4 error message).
There is a reset button to clear the error - however it is located on the bottom of the kettle which requires one to tip the 3 - 4 gallons of boiling hot wort over far enough to reach the stupid button. After pitching my first batch down the drain, I cleanded up the kettle and tried again this round, I was sure to shut off the power and let the malt extract fully dissolve stirring for a good 5 minutes. hit the heater back on and got the @#$%#@ E4 again. salvaged it this round as I drained the wort into my brew pot and finished up on the stovetop.
3rd time was a charm as I used a powdered extract and all was as expected. top notch! Still needed to be sure the extract is fully dissolved b4 you turn the power back on.
Awesome Countertop brewstation. If not for the E4 issue easily a five star device. Just stay away from liquid malt extract.
A great addition to my brew equipment.
Only a few more weeks before we can start to enjoy this product. Can't wait.
