Green Widow™ Hop Spider
Designed for brewers, by brewers.
Sludge in your boil kettle is now a thing of the past. The Green Widow™ hop spider allows for massive hop additions, spices, herbs, or anything else you can imagine adding to the boil.
Integrated hooks allow the Green Widow to hang over the edge of your kettle into the wort. The rubberized handle makes for easy removal and doubles as a hanger for storage. Constructed with a tough stainless steel frame and heavy duty 400 micron stainless steel mesh, the Green Widow will stand up to even the hoppiest IPA.
- 400 micron stainless steel mesh will keep hop trub and other kettle additions out of the final wort.
- Rubberized insulating handle for protection from heat.
- 14" tall by 6" diameter basket size - perfect size for circulation.
- Built in hooks to hang on the kettle edge.
- Capacity volume of 1 Ib. pellet hops.
Did keep most of sludge out of my brew. Much cleaner process. Very little hop residue left in brew kettle.
It retains some of pelletized hops but much goes thru screen. Fine for whole hop flowers.
Works wells, especially when brewing big IPAs with lots of hop additions, really helps to cut down on the hop matter transported to a fermenter. I don't have particularly large boil kettle so it rests on the bottom of the kettle instead of being suspended. It's not ideal, but hasn't seemed to impact performance. I should have measured first.
Seems well made. I have used it in 3 batches and have not had a clog in my plate chiller, so does the job as well.
I always filter my batch starting with the primary, then again in the secondary and finally at bottling. My last batch was so clean at each stage I did not need to clean the filters once. Of course there was some sediment before bottling, but it was nothing like I would have before using the hop spider. Clean-up was a breeze as well. Just used a garden hose and hop spider was spotless.I highly recommend it.
