There are multiple references to a spigot, and if I recall there was a picture showing one at one point. My kit does not have a spigot (or the hole for one). I asked this question when I first got my kit a few weeks ago, but to date it appears not to have been answered. Northern still offers the siphonless small mouth (ie. With spigot) for 4 bucks more, but appears to have started to omit it from the kit. I just noticed that all references to that spigot were removed at some point. Now the instructions want you to scoop the 'bouch out and into bottles or a vessel....really? A spigot would make this sooo much easier, and for what it would cost NB to include it, a few dollars maybe, I dont understand why it is no longer included. I have been a NB customer for as long as I can recall (I have been brewing 19 years), feels like they sacrificed quality to make a buck, this struck me as atypical for them. I have not made my first batch yet as I was waiting for a response to my original question, maybe this review will spark that. I am sure the actual ferm/brew process will be fine with or without the spigot, but it should would be nicer to have one.
Great flavor. Easy to make. I would have liked a little more “Fizz”, but ready to make another batch.
Everything is top notch. Only thing that needs improvement is the rubber band used to hold the cloth over the mouth of the jug.
I am enjoying this kit. The directions were easy to follow and the recipe is good. Going to get a brew kit and mix the two ??
This is my first exposure to making kombucha and this kit is a great way to get started. Comes with a nice large wide mouth heavy duty jar with plastic lid and attachment which looks to be able to do dual purpose for brewing small batches of beer. It comes with the butter muslin fabric to cut to your own size, a handy funnel and stainless tea ball. So far I was able to make a good 2 batches and still had 1/2 cup of sugar left over and 1/2 a tea bag to make more. This is the best and most cost effective kit I've found to get started making your own tea.
