Okay for starters
The burner works fine and the kettle is top notch. However, after brewing a few batches you soon discover that taking a temp can be challenging and pouring your batch into a fermenter is difficult, requiring two people. So, for a new brewer I would recommend a kettle with a valve and thermometer. That would make life much easier and the hobby more enjoyable.

Great burner
Have only brewed one batch but worked great. Brought 6.5 gallons of wort to boil in 20 minutes. Sparge water about 10 minutes. Much faster than my brewing brethren.

Up your game from the stovetop
Have been consistently impressed with the performance of this combo. Was a bit disappointed in the quality of the kettle at first but it is proving to be a workhorse.

Dog gone good deal !!
First of all speed and well packed product once again from you guys --hey I like that AWESOME!!
Kettle -- first time being able to do a full boil. Loved when all was said and done no tell tale signs of partial carmalization of the extract. One suggestion for the pot - could they put another handle on the bottom of the kettle to help in lifting and pouring.?? At 8.2 lbs per gallon of water you need to lift and pour over 40 lbs for an eight gallon kettle... Otherwise very fine product
Burner -- my definiton of half throttle on air damper and theirs is do different things.. But once adjusted a nice controllable flame.
One note -- I have developed a procedure when doing an extract boil is to bring my temps up very slow -- so when the grains are set in to be steeped my temperatures remain steady at what would be a mash temp -- after all that is what you are doing just a smaller amount, and I used the same procedure going to boil -- bring er up slow to boil watch the thermometer and no boilover ..
That is it. Would I buy this combo again -you bet just add the extra handle :)

Great once the bugs are worked out!
Shipped out with a screw missing from the damper and a bad regulator. NB sent out a replacement regulator quickly and I covered the screw hole with some tape. Now it works great!

Eight gal pot a burner
Awesome! Before I was limited to three gals and boiling on the stove. Just did five gals and did the boil in the garage...in the summer. Can't wait for the next batch. The eight gal pot and the burner is a must have.

When will this combo be available with a kettle that has a drain valve?
scott s on Jan 20, 2017
How difficult would it be to drill a hole for a drain valve on this Tall Boy?
A shopper on Jul 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Get a good step drill and it's pretty easy. Drilled a hole for a thermometer and drain on mine.
This has been out of stock for a while does NB plan to offer this combo again in the future? If so any estimate on availability and what about a 10 gallon version?
C B on Jan 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for the request on a 10 gallon option, I'll pass that along. The 8 gallon kettle is out of stock until probably April! Sorry about that, it should be available once we receive more kettles. Let me know if we can help further!
Is there an equivalent deal for the 10 gallon pot and burner?
E N on Dec 8, 2015

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may pose, but the package discount is only available on the 8 gallon kettle.
What is the diameter?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: DIA=12.5" Depth=15" after adjusting flame mix on burner this is EASILY one the best investments I've made a hobby brewer. 5stars.
Do you recommend this for biab?
A shopper on Aug 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This would work awesome for a BIAB. If you want to do full size 5 gallon BIAB you may look into a 10 Gallon kettle.
Can you upgrade to a 10 gallon pot?
Ryan H on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello Ryan,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! We cannot upgrade to the 10 gallon pot. To run the 10 gallon and darkstar, they would need to be purchased separately. Sorry about that!
Can this product be upgraded to a 10 gal pot so you can have enough volume for BIAB?
G A on Nov 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it can be upgraded from a 5, to a 8 or a 10 gal while you are making your purchase. 8 gal brew kettles are good for 3 gal batches if you are going to BIAB. I bought an 8 gal when I should've gotten a 10 or larger! Didn't know about BIAB being new to brewing, so 5 gallon BIAB batches are out of the question until I buy a larger than 8 gal kettle. Do your research if you are a beginner, and purchase for the future!!
Any idea's when they will be back in stock?
A shopper on Jun 3, 2017

Any idea when this'll be in stock again??
C T on Apr 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We are out of both items, sorry. I believe both should be back available by the end of April. Cheers! James J.
Since the 8 gallon is out of stock any chance you could do this same combo in the 10 gallon.
T S on Apr 5, 2016

Thanks for contacting us. I'm sorry to say that we are currently out of the burner as well, so we are unable to do any bundles containing the Dark Star 2.0. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Should the burner move a lot ? While installing gas line I noticed the burner has a lot of "wiggle" up and down and side to side. Nut holding burner is tight. Is this typical?
S J on Oct 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The base is flexible and is designed to work on uneven ground. Once you have a kettle with liquid on the burner

the weight presses the flexible base towards the ground and is will seem much more sturdy. The base is still strong enough to support over 200 lbs.
