Product Details
All of you out there currently enjoying that chocolate Bourbon-barrel-Brettanomyces continuously-wet-hopped Imperial black IPA, take a moment and say a silent “thank you” to the humble West Coast American Pale Ale. Sure, it might seem tame to your 21st century craft beer sensibilities and sensory-overloaded palate, but back when Northern Brewer was four dudes and a 20-foot storefront, this style was the “extreme” beer – and it's still going strong. More than any other, this widely-imitated ale is responsible for bringing craft beer into the national consciousness and re-introducing America to real beer. Now it's a classic. Decidedly clean, firmly hoppy, and drinkably bitter, this isn't an ale that feels the need to jump up and down and scream for your attention. From Chico, California to all points of the compass, whether you're pairing it with Mexican, burgers and fries, or just conversation, there's always a good time and a place for a good, basic pale ale.

Sierra Madre pale ale
The instructions were super easy to follow. I bottled it a week ago so some time after the 12th we will be able to taste it. We are really looking forward to it.

What a Way to Start!
Have tried to start brewing several times over the last few decades but always had to sell off equipment due to relocation or something. Finally got into brewing my first batch and it came out fantastic. Easy to follow instructions coupled with instructional videos at NB.com helped immensely. Will definitely buy this small batch again next winter but first as the snow is disappearing I think I will make this one of my 5 gal brews during outdoor brewing weather. My wife tried a sip of mine thinking it was store bought beer and said that she really liked it and I should buy more. She about flipped out when I told her it was the brew she helped me make. (she drank most of it)

Decent Pale Ale
Turned out very dark in color for a pale ale. No video or laminated instructions sheet provided. Final product did taste pretty good. If I brew this again I will probably tweak the recipe a bit

It's ok
Fermented 2 weeks in a little big mouth bubbler then did a week in a secondary at 64F all the way through. Bottled for 3 weeks and 1 week in fridge. I'm glad this was a 1 gallon kit and not a 5 gallon kit. My impression of the beer is that the hop profile is too grassy. It has a nice malt backbone and little to no head. I noticed the best taste around ~55F when the grassy taste gave way a little. Would like to have seen a little more citrus in it but other than that it's not too bad.

Pale Ale
Eerything was in the kit. I have noticed that when reading some of the directions in other kits, there are always an instruction that says watch the DVD. What DVD? I've looked on the web site and there are some videos, but none about how to make this beer, or the Bourbon Barrel brew that I am going to get next. But I don't care about that. The written instruction were clear for me, a beginner (this was my second batch, I've made). Just brewed it last night so have a few weeks before I can comment on taste. I'm just glad that there is a place (Northern Brewer) that has about every thing I will ever need for brewing. Thanks for the great service.

Clean, crisp, balanced!
This was my first partial extract brew, and I am massively satisfied! This beer is exactly as advertised: crisp with nice, hoppy bitterness, yet very drinkable. As I advance in my brew crafting, I could see this beer permanently residing on it's own tap! Brew, Drink, Share, Repeat!
