SS ball valve
A well-made ball valve used to replace an old brass model on my pump outlet. These are what I will replace my other ball valves on my kettles. Looks sharp. Works very well and combined with silicone hoses is providing a nice upgrade to my brewing system. Makes you look like you know what you're doing!

Does the trick
I've bought stuff all over the interwebs and have always had better luck ordering from NB. The ball valve is solid and doesn't leak. Good shine to it and does the job.

Nice Valve
I've had this valve on my Home Depot cooler for 4 years now. Never had a problem, and you can disassemble it for cleaning.

Good Product
These are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Regarding other reviews that the threads are sloppy and he couldn't stop them from leaking unless using thread paste, says a lot! I would bet that you wrapped the thread tape the wrong way or used to much. The sliding lock is a great option for brewers so you do not accidently open a valve, losing valuable liquid. The lock also makes you think twice before opening it, which comes in handy after a couple brews and you go to open the wrong valve off your pump and start running wort on the floor. Who would use thread paste in their brew system? You now have that chemical in your beer, enjoy!

too much slop on threads
I bought two of these, one to put on my mash tun and one for my boil kettle. I could not get them to stop leaking for the life of me using teflon tape. I experimented using a different number of wraps and could not consistently get it to stop leaking and have valve at a 12 o clock position. The threads seem to be slightly oversized and the only way to get it leak proof was with liquid soft set thread sealant. Also, the locking mechanism is a stupid feature for an offering to a homebrewer, makes it a pain to use.

Vary nice
I am totally happy. I mounted it on the bottom of my SS conical fermenter.

Can you remove the ball from inside for cleaning?

BEST ANSWER: Technically you can disassemble it, but every time you do if you don't get it back together right or you damage one of the seals it will leak speaking from experience. Pony up the extra few bucks and get the 3-piece valve if you're looking to have convenient disassembly.
What color are the handles? Look blue in the picture, but I've gotten a few others from NB and they all have black handles. It's anal I know, but I'd like all of them to match...

BEST ANSWER: The valves you purchased were they three piece valves? Most of the valves I purchase through Northern Brewer have all had blue handles if they're the fixed but if there's a 3-piece they have black handles and I believe they're from blichmann. On a side note don't take apart these valves and try to clean them remove them from whatever you're doing soak them in your cleaner and sanitizer.
