A Brew Kettle of Epic Proportions!

The 15 Gallon Tall Boy® is serious kettle for the brewer who wants the option to brew 5 or 10 gallon batches. The 15 gallon size allows plenty of space to boil 11-12 gallons of wort.

Ideal for: Boiling 11-12 gallons of wort.

This is no repurposed stock pot. The Tall Boy® is made specifically for homebrewers. Brew scientists have determined that the ideal height to diameter ratio for a brew kettle should be 1.2:1 in order to optimize boil performance. The Tall Boy reduces evaporative losses, and less evaporative cooling means a more vigorous boil. A vigorous boil means more volatilization of off flavors, and better hop utilization. All of that means better beer. Add to that it’s 4mm thick tri-clad bottom, designed to stop bullets and prevent scorching, and you’ve got a serious brewer’s tool. The Tall Boy logo is laser etched into the surface as a subtle indication to the world that you take brewing seriously.

Approximate Dimensions: 15.5" Wide by 18.6" Tall

Great Brew Kettle
l received my new Tall Boy Kettle yesterday, after careful inspection not one bit of damage. This kettle is more than I expected! Nice heavy sides and the thick bottom will make heating to boil quick without scorching. Hats off once again to the Brewmaster's you have found another great piece of brewing equipment for the greatest hobby known to persons! (is that politically correct?)

Good kettle
this is a great kettle for the price, especially when on sale. I have used the 8 gallon version for a couple years with no complaints. Just upgraded to this one for larger BIAB boils. Works great paired with a large brew bag. My new kettle does have an evident linear bulge almost from top to bottom where the steel was presumably seamed together. No problem in first mash and boil. Will continue to test its integrity.

My pot came In today 11/22/17, 5 days ahead of scedual. Packaging was good but pot had a 4x2 inch dent about 1.5" deep into the kettle about 2 inches up from the base. I inspected the packaging and it did not appear that the kettle was damaged In shipping but had been shipped like this from whom ever northern brewer got it from. The dent was not creased and I got most of it out with a hammer and a rubber mallet. I won't bother returning it because it's completely usable and the gage of steel suited well to fixing it myself. Overall I'm really happy with the kettle and think it will work great for many years. Only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the dent, and I know that northern brewer can not inspect everything before they ship so I do not blame them at all. Kettle was high enough quality that it could be hammered back into shape !

Thanks for the review. Customer Service will be in touch, we still feel about the dent and want to make that right.

Good pot for the price
First off - the thing is built like a brick house. The side walls are thick and the all-clad bottom does a nice job of diffusing the burner heat. I purchased the 15 gallon size and brew 6 and 10 gallon batches. It's a little big for 6.

Price - it's cheaper than the fancier pots. But more than a Concord kettle. It's more attractive when on sale.
Wall thickness
Sturdy handles
The lid will hang on the handles. (nice)
Bottom thickness

Try as I might - I could not drill through this kettle to install a valve. It laughs at HSS drill bits, eats titanium drill bits, even cobalt drill bits. So mine has a nice dimple on the side where it resisted the assault. I gave up thinking if I ever do make it through the side - it'll never step up to the 1" hole for the valve. (and ruin a kettle in the process)
There are no gallon markings anywhere. I use a measuring tape when boiling down.

Much better than a budget kettle
Receive this about a week ago. It was much nicer than I originally expected . Well-made and looks like it will last me a lifetime . I don't think you can beat this deal especially for a 15 gallon kettle. Used it once already and it held up great .

I price and size was great, but the kettle was dented. I did receive compensation for the product, which makes me square with Northern brewer, but not the tall boy kettle.

Replacement is an alternative solution to dents from shipping.

Boy, you've got to carry that weight...
With apologies to the Beatles, when you get into pots of this size, weight becomes a major consideration, and this one can handle it. I bought it for the purpose of doing 10 gallon batches, and it has worked very well. Let's do the math: Water weighs 8.345 pounds/gallon, plus throwing in 20 pounds of fermentable solids makes for a payload more than 100 pounds. The handles can take it when it's time to lift the whole works off the burner (although you might want to think about your back…). The lid fits well and construction overall is very good. The surface finish cleans easily. The sides are heavy enough without being overly thick, which simply adds weight. The bottom has an extra layer for strength and heat distribution.

Great for BIAB
First of all, I use my 15 gallon Tall Boy only for BIAB (Brew in a Bag). This gives me room to brew as little as 5 gallons or as much as 10 gallons of beer in one vessel (7.5 gallons is the sweet spot). The construction is sturdy, the lid fits perfectly, and the tri-clad base helps with even heating. For my purposes it's great. Wait for 20% off if you want a good deal. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Tall Boy's do not come with graduated volume markings, ball valve, thermometer, or sight glass. If you want that pay more and get a Megapot 1.2. I'd rather spend money on grain and hops.If you're looking for solid quaility at a decent price get a Tall Boy. Want a great price? Wait for a promotion.

Don't settle for anything less!
Over the Memorial Day weekend, I used this huge kettle to brew up my very first all-grain batch of APA. It was more than up to the task of handling about 8 gallons of water and a 10+ lb. grain bill with zero risk of boil-over.My only regret is that I purchased the 8-gallon model earlier instead of going straight to this big guy.

what is the thikness or (gauge) of the pot?
A shopper on Aug 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Do not know the gauge. Very happy with these. They have a thick bottom that distributes heat well. I have a 10 and a 15.
Has anyone tried to drill through this to install a ball valve? I have a step bit and punches but want to know if anyone else has tried before I get into it. Definitely don't want to ruin the pot.
A shopper on Jan 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We do stainless steel fabrication. We have welded TC ferrules to both the sides and the bottom of this kettle. We then use TC clamps to attach TC valves to the ferrules. Drilling SS is not easy, especially large diameter holes.
Can this be used on an induction stove ?
A shopper on Jan 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the 15 gal. Tallboy has a very thick bottom and is very sturdy. If you have any intention of cutting holes and welding fittings for extra nozzles, however, you really want to stay at least 1 3/4' off the bottom with your cuts and welds. the bottom of this pot is welded to the sides with a very good weld, but it can split if you start cutting or welding on that seam. I found out the hard way and had to get it repaired. I am still very happy with this kettle. The split was entirely caused by my own modifications and lack of knowledge of the seemed construction of this pot.

Any plans to carry a 20 gallon version of this kettle ?
S T on Apr 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for the request. No plans that I am aware of but I will pass along the request! Cheers.
Is this pot made of stainless steel, and if so, what grade?
S O on Oct 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is made of stainless steel, but I'm not sure about the grade. I've used it 4 times since purchase and it's working great!
Is this pot induction capable and does the lid fit over the pot as in an outer sleeve fashion.
F R on Jan 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It IS induction capable; and the lid fits on/into the top lip of the kettle, onto the top edge but not down over the outer edges.
Are the handles riveted or welded; if so, how many rivets per handle?
A shopper on May 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi there, the handles are riveted. There are 4 in each handle. Cheers!
I have the 15 gallon and love it. What false bottom can I get that works with it?
A shopper on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi there, anything of our false bottoms that are 15" or less will work. Cheers!
What are the internal dimensions?
G U on Jan 17, 2016

The internal dimensions are about 16"D x 18.75"H.
are there gallon markings on this kettle?
L A on Aug 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There are not volume graduations on the Tall Boy. There are on the MegaPot kettles though.
