Product details

Meet Waimea, New Zealand jack-of-all-trades. It wasn't always this way--Waimea was bred for its bittering potential, not exceptional flavor and aroma. Yet this high-alpha hop is full of pleasant surprises, bursting with intense fresh tangelo, citrus fruit and pine needle character.

With new world flavor and excellent dual-purpose ability, Waimea is suitable across a wide range of styles, from dry-hopping IPAs to bold bittering. It has even been touted for the way it can meld with the crisp, smooth profile of an imperial lager.

Fruit in a sweet brew

In addition to the expected bitter from adding these at the beginning of the boil, I also added Waimea after flameout and I have to agree with another reviewer who mentioned "creamcicle".
My beer was Belgian base grains, Belgian wheat, and oats, all mashed at 156, two pounds of corn sugar, and with BE-256 for yeast fermented low. It tastes like strawberries and cream along with rich aroma flavors of the yeast.
I believe the wheat and oat brought out strawberry and tropical fruit, while the high FG offset the bitterness completely.
My wife and her friends like the sweet fruit character that came from the Waimea hops. I'll definitely use these again in something a bit more 'crisp' to see how much bitter and herbal flavors will come out too.

Orange creamsicle

I have gone back and forth on Waimea. It definitely has a strong bitter character. There is also a strong citrus flavor. The odd thing is this has a creamsicle flavor.
