Wyeast 2000 Budvar is a very malty, low sulfur-producing yeast from a brewery in the Czech Republic. Allows the brewer to leave residual sweetness in the beer. Flocculates at a warmer temperature (37F) than many lager yeasts, which allows the brewer to more easily leave residual sweetness in the beer.

Product Details

More Yeast With a minimum of 100 billion cells per package, the 125 ml Activator™ from Wyeast has the highest cell count of any ready to pitch fresh 100% Pure Liquid Yeast™ product on the market.

Built-in Activation The Wyeast Smack Pack™ is the only package on the market that provides proof of yeast activity before use. You know the yeast is active before it goes into your wort.

Ready to Pitch The 125 ml Activator™ is ready to pitch immediately, or for an added boost, activate the yeast when you start brewing and pitch it in its active state by the time the wort is cool. The Activator™ gives the brewer options no other package can deliver.

Faster Starts You will achieve faster starts with the Activator™ because of the high cell count and the fact that the yeast is active when it hits the wort. When yeast is active, sugar is already being transported across the cell membrane which greatly reduces lag time.

Longer Shelf Life The Activator™ package was designed with superior UV light- and oxygen-barrier material to extend shelf life, making our 6 month from manufacture date Product Warranty possible. Yeast slowly depletes energy reserves while in storage. The nutrient pouch inside the Activator™ helps the stored yeast recover from dormancy and restores vitality.

* Wyeast Direct Pitch Activator™ packages will sometimes swell slightly, or moderately during shipping or later while properly stored. This is not an indication of deterioration if the package is less than 6 months old and has been properly handled. This is result of trace amounts of nutrients, still available at the time packaging, causing small amount of culture activity and CO2 production. Some strains are more prone to this than others.

To Black Pond Brew
This "Reveiw" Should be removed. Sounds like you got an infection or brewed with tap water. Dont blame the yeast. Sounds like poor brewing practices not this fine yeast

I wish every beer tasted as good as this yeast produces. This yeast will produce world class bohemian lagers. Be fore warned, this yeast must be lagered for at least 6 weeks. 8 weeks perhaps depending on your conditions. I made several sample tastings at 4, 5, 6 and up through 12 weeks from the brew date and around 6 weeks this yeast started to shine. The taste prior was clearly green and undrinkable, however at around 8 weeks from brew date this beer went from a one star beer to a five star beer.

We used this yeast for two of our beers: a biere de garde and a Czech pilsner. We were originally excited for the biere de garde because it took to the beer very aggressively-we got up to 9%. However, it left the beer with a very medicine-like flavor, masking the malt and making it almost undrinkable. To a lesser extent, the medicine flavor was produced in the pilsner as well. We are going to be doing more batches of each of these beers but this yeast will not make the recipe list.

Has anyone tried this yeast in a European Lager recipe?

BEST ANSWER: I have been a homebrewer the last 22 years. My greatest goal has always been to one day make bavarian lager competitive with that made in Bavaria. Mt taste tester is my wife, an "ex- Air Force brat", who had the good fortune to spend the entirety of her high school years in Munich (one of the great beer capitals of the world.) I finally achieved my goal using Wyeast 2000 Budvar yeast. I could never quite reach the same superb flavor profile with any other lager yeast. The BIG BIG problem is availability. It is rarely in stock and when it is, there are usually one or two packs for sale. But the yeast itself is superb.
