Does the job well Review by Nick

Had one break after about 12 bottles, luckily my neighbor has a bench top so the batch was saved. Mine must have just been a lemon, so I contacted NB and they sent a new one with a cool pint glass without hesitation!

The new capper works great, not like a bench top, but easier to store. NB's service is fantastic! (Posted on 1/26/14)

Great hand held capper Review by JH

This capper is better than my previous one. It caps bottle evenly, and does not level a ring impression like my previous one. The handles provide great leverage. Seals the bottle cleanly. (Posted on 1/9/14)

Mr. Beer capper<Red Bottle Capper Review by Nic

Switch to all grain and picked one of these up, and this has a better feel than the Mr. Beer one. Feels a bit more real. Definitely recommend. The magnet is very helpful. (Posted on 12/16/13)

New to home brewing and this is the first bottle capper I've ever tried. Very light and operates smoothly. I intend to bottle only for now so I look forward to smooth sailing from here on out. (Posted on 11/17/13)

I bought an extra capper to have on hand in case the one I've been using for the past year broke during a bottling session... but it's never happened! These things are solid and reliable. You won't be disappointed. (Posted on 10/26/13)

Inexpensive Upgrade Review by Derek

The bottler that came with my starter kit was a bit clunky, tended to dent caps and broke several bottles. Upgraded to this and am so happy I did. Smooth operation, gentle on the caps and bottles, strong magnet and I love the fact that the cone can be swapped out. I no longer cringe every time I push down on the bottler. PROBLEMS SOLVED! pretty decent Review by Anthony W

It beats the black one that came with my kit from another northern area brewer. The black one bottled 2-3 batches a month for a couple years, but started getting pretty funky towards the end. This red one felt way better from the get-go, and hopefully will surpass the two year mark by some time. To use a song... it's a smooth operator. Although when this one goes south, I think I'll get a lever-operated one. (Posted on 9/9/13)
It is good to have a capper that works Review by Michael

I bought the Black Beauty capper when I first got started and it dented my caps and was not the best. I finally bought the Red Baron and it is smooth, does not dent caps, and just feels higher quality. This is the capper to get. (Posted on 8/22/13)

Great Review by Rudy

This is a reorder I think. Some how I got this capper (an absolute look alike of the Red Baron) in 1995. I've capped over 200 5 gallon batches with this tool. The part that fits over the caps is worn so that some times a cap is not on tight. A friend gave me another brand of capper but it comes off the cap really hard. So I have ordered my second Red Baron I think. 10,000 caps + (Posted on 8/17/13)
Small Batches, No Problems Review by Michael
Rating
I would imagine you could wear this thing out fairly quickly if you really put it through the wringer. However, brewing about three gallons or fewer per week over the last several months, I've never had a problem with this capper and it shows no signs that it will not continue to perform for the foreseeable future. A must for the small batch brewer. (Posted on 8/8/13)
A New Updated Red Baron Review by Jon
Rating
The capper has been slightly updated. It now features a somewhat curved handle, a more matte finish, and a stronger magnet. I've used the original red baron capper, but bought this one as well as a "just in case" during bottling day. (Posted on 7/25/13)
Solid piece of equipment Review by John

I have the black version on loan from a friend, but made the investment in the Red Baron based on other reviews here; so far, it's proven to be an excellent choice. Easy, reliable, solidly built. The magnet holding the cap in place fell out once, but popped back into place without trouble and hasn't bothered me since. (Posted on 7/16/13)
No Broken Bottles! Review by James
Rating
I've only used this capper on one bottling (about 40 bottles). I'm giving it five stars because it works far better than the black one that comes with the brewing kit. I don't feel like I'm going to break the bottle every time I push down on it. I used to break bottles every time with the black capper. This one is much better, and, for the first time, I didn't break any bottles while bottling. (Posted on 1/12/13)
works and is cheap Review by M Barnhill

I have used mine for three years and it just works. I've been kegging for about 2 years, but still bottle a few beers from each batch. I have some wear on mine and it's starting to break down a little, but I probably will just buy another versus buying something three times as much and not getting much better quality. 3 to 4 years at under $20 seems reasonable. It gets it done Review by Sasha

Not exactly the best thing I've ever used, but it does what it's meant to do and (with a few false starts) does it well. I still sometimes don't quite get it on the bottle right and have to re-cap, but that's user error. (Posted on 5/25/12)
Easy, Reliable & Durable Review by seedsofchaos

I've used the Red Baron solely for 3 years of homebrewing and the only thing that has happened to it in those 3 years is a bit of plastic chipped off. This, of course, did not affect usability. I recently purchased a 29mm capper bell from NB and now can bottle and cap beers with both standard American caps and 29mm Euro caps for 750ml bottles. Replacing the capper bell is as simple as unscrewing one and screwing on the other.

The Red Baron is a versatile capper and will last you a long time if you use it correctly and always use the correct caps with the correct capper bell. (Posted on 1/31/12)

Works for me, for years Review by Uncle Al

I put messages in bottles into the ocean, typically 100 champagne bottles a whack for their survivability, 26 mm (American) and 29 mm (European) necks. The Red Baron flies flawlessly for snugging the second of seven barriers against sunlight and salt water. It works for me.

Good Value Review by Jeremy

I used the Black capper for a couple of years, and this is much nicer. It is much easier to crimp and requires less force, which means fewer problems. I've bottled well over a couple thousand bottles over the course of a few years with this one and it still caps like the day I got it. I don't know why anyone would buy a more expensive capper. *sigh* Review by Hekkenschutze

Worked great for three months and then the plastic cracked! I had to rush my primed beer back into secondary ("thirdondary") and had a few more beers while I cussed the whole botched operation for the rest of night.

not happy, will not replace with the same product, for I will buy a more expensive product! (Posted on 3/13/11)
It's been very reliable for me Review by Rich

I've been brewing since Nov 2008 and I've only had one Red Baron capper for the whole time. I've never had a problem and it still works like it did out of the box. I've never aped down on it hard nor have I washed it either because it doesn't get dirty. Why sanitize it? It only touches the top of the cap and the sides of the bottle below the cap.

In summery: It's inexpensive and easy to use. Just press on each cap firmly but without excessive force. And, again, there is no need to sanitize it. I've bottle hundreds of beers and had no trouble. (Posted on 3/8/11)

works well but will rust Review by urracadan

Used this capper two years now, still works flawlessly. Everything gets sanitized including the capper with BTF Iodophor. I've replaced everything metal ie bottle filler with spring to gravity fed. The bell, spring and bottle jaws on this capper have rusted very badly and no replacements I know of are available. So, for the price buy another one and if you do sanitize your capper dry it thorughly and put a little oil on it (Posted on 8/16/10)
Proper use will go a long way Review by Highway

Ive used mine on over a thousand bottles and it still works great. I think the trick is to not put more pressure then you need. Keep in mind that you,re only krimping a little bottle cap so dont try to do a handstand on it. Overkill will break it. If used properly it will last quite a long time. (Posted on 6/9/10)
