Product Details
All of you out there currently enjoying that chocolate Bourbon-barrel-Brettanomyces continuously-wet-hopped Imperial black IPA, take a moment and say a silent “thank you” to the humble West Coast American Pale Ale. Sure, it might seem tame to your 21st century craft beer sensibilities and sensory-overloaded palate, but back when Northern Brewer was four dudes and a 20-foot storefront, this style was the “extreme” beer – and it's still going strong. More than any other, this widely-imitated ale is responsible for bringing craft beer into the national consciousness and re-introducing America to real beer. Now it's a classic. Decidedly clean, firmly hoppy, and drinkably bitter, this isn't an ale that feels the need to jump up and down and scream for your attention. From Chico, California to all points of the compass, whether you're pairing it with Mexican, burgers and fries, or just conversation, there's always a good time and a place for a good, basic pale ale.

Clean, crisp, balanced!
This was my first partial extract brew, and I am massively satisfied! This beer is exactly as advertised: crisp with nice, hoppy bitterness, yet very drinkable. As I advance in my brew crafting, I could see this beer permanently residing on it's own tap! Brew, Drink, Share, Repeat!

Dark Pale Ale
First off, I expected it to be lighter in color. I used an ss dutch oven which was far from 1.2 to 1. Too much boil off led to low volume which really jacked up my color and I ended up with a 1.0698 og and 1.0318 fg. I quickly bought an ss pot for small batches for my next go though my next Sierra Madre will be 5 gal all grain which should turn out lighter. I love these 1 gal kits to try something before brewing a larger batch.

Very easy with great results.
I opened one of these the other night and was very pleased. The brewing was very easy. After two weeks conditioning, the beer had a nice head and a good color. I could smell some of the hops immediately. My wife tried it first and wouldn't give it back. I had to pour another for myself. I think I will have to make this again soon. This is a great beer for the warm Yuma days.

Pretty close to the real thing.
I ordered this kit just to sample the brew, and I have to say that is it real close to the actual Sierra Nevada. Easy to make! Will do this one again on a larger scale.

Most refreshing!!!!!
I still am a beginner brewer, but this kit made me feel like a pro! Nothing is better than a great ale at the end of the day! I even like it better than Sierra Nevada!

This is worth committing to a five-gallon batch for!
It's pretty good as a one gallon batch and definitely tastes like Sierra Nevada pale ale.

One of the best beers I've ever tasted!
I've brewed most of your 1 gallon kits and this is my favorite. Just the right balance of sweet and bitter, great color and frothy head! I'm hooked!

Easy to brew
Just started home brewing and this kit made it easy. 2 weeks in fermintor and then 2 weeks in bottles. Tasted great.

BEST ANSWER: Hello Bluebeard,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! The grains in that kit are 0.125 pounds Briess Caramel 40L. I hope that this helps!
