very useful
I have a few of these that I use to save my yeast in. I wash back and forth between a couple of them and then the last one goes into the fridge. Nice to have around.

Great to have around
I originally bought this because I had a particularly stubborn stuck fermentation, and I wanted to mix my yeast starter in with ~1 gallon of must before adding it to the primary fermenter to get it acclimated. Worked great for that, and now I have it around for overflow, small batches, etc. At this price you can't afford NOT to have one :-D.

Great for experimenting
I purchased five of these to do some experimenting with a Cream Ale. This is a great, cheap product (cheap financially, not cheap quality). My only negative feedback on this product is, if you choose to get the stoppers, that they will not stay in very well if the stopper or the inside rim is wet. This could obviously be avoided if you choose to get the screw-tops and/or ensure the area is dry before attempting to fit the stopper on the carboy. The other thing is that a thief will not fit in the opening. The thief that I have is the one that comes with the essential gravity-testing kit from NB. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoy that these are budget-friendly and are somewhat lightweight (especially compared to a 5-gallon glass carboy).

great for small batch flower wines
I've been experimenting with flower wines, hard ciders, & aperitifs this year -- this is the perfect size for trying out this kind of stuff. Great to have a couple of these handy for when the mood strikes.

good jug
nice glass jug with no complaints, even has a somewhat decorative texturing on the bottom and the finger hole fits beer-drinking-man-sized fingers so you can swing it on your forearm to drink out of

I love these!
These 1gal jugs are great for sample batches. I often make a gallon batch of mead to decide if it's worth the investment for the amount of honey and other ingredients for a full 5 or 6 gallon batch. Can't beat the price of these either.

Recently got the 1 gallon first-timer's kit with Caribou Slobber, I'm not sure I yielded 1 gallon after brewing but didn't measure the carboy for a fill line to achieve 1 gallon. Do you guys have a sense for where the 1 gallon mark is on these? (at shoulder? base of neck? near the embossed markings? top of neck?) Thanks!
S E on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have not measured where the 1 gallon fill line is on the 1 gallon glass carboy either. Since I use it for making wine, the water is measured before combining with the fruit juice prior to placing in the carboy.
What is the empty weight of the jug?
