Product Details

A component kit for those who already have a ball-lock soda keg system. Includes nitrogen regulator, 5 lb. nitrogen cylinder, stout faucet with tap handle and 3 inch shank, plus all necessary tubing, clamps, fittings, ball lock disconnects, and instructions. The stout faucet is what creates that famous cascade of foam that slowly resolves itself into a pint of beer. When served "on nitrogen", a beer will have finer bubbles, a denser head, and a creamier mouthfeel than those carbonated and dispensed with CO2 alone. Fill the included nitrogen cylinder with beer gas (a blend of 70% nitrogen and 30% CO2, available at most gas supply companies) and prepare to live the dream.

Please note that by federal law, gas cylinders must be shipped empty — you'll need to have them filled locally. Look under "Gas Suppliers" in your Yellow Pages.

Smooth
The nitro system was the perfect addition/companion to our CO2 keg setup. The biggest surprise is how low the volume of CO2 must be before dispensing with beer gas. Beer gas seems quite a bit more expensive but is a huge step up for the stouts and malty ales. The kit is easy to set up, especially if you already have a keg system. For serving I started at 20 PSI and increased to 30 according to how foamy I wanted it to be. Force carbonation should be done with CO2. Great addition to the tap system but I would recommend this be the next step after the CO2 system, not vice versa.

Great, but check your local gas supply.
This is a great setup that came with a few hiccups.1) I live in a decently populated area (Sonoma County) and the two gas suppliers I went to both said they neither filled nor exchanged the five pound beer gas cylinders, but only exchanged 20 pounders. So check your gas supplier first because it will cost about an extra hundred dollars to trade up. This isn't NB's problem, just a warning.2) The gas-in ball lock in the kit was missing a bearing and didn't seal well. I had another and it wasn't a big deal but this is why I took one star off.Overall I'm very happy with the quality of the tap. It adds a lot to scottish ales and ESBs as well as stouts.

NB Black IPA is on Nitro!
When the order came I was excited and wanted to get it done. The cylinder needed to be filled so I got to work on the hardware. I drilled the hole but the supplied shank was to short! Make sure to measure before ordering. I had a replacement shank in two days and put it on the door! I tried it on C02 while waiting for the nitrogen. Works fine but the connection leaks inside the fridge? Once a day I have to empty the drip cup on the inside door shelf. It's flat but I have and excuse drink. I may not fix that????

Decent setup, but does not come as pictured
I purchased this system before Christmas and have had a little time to use it. It is a decent setup. It does what it is supposed to do. It gets you pouring nitro beers with very little thought or effort, but as the title states it does not come as pictured. First off the picture shows an aluminum tank. You do not get an aluminum tank, you get a steel tank. Steel vs. aluminum opinions aside, aluminum tanks cost more than steel so showing an aluminum tank then sending a steel tank isn't cool. When I contacted Northern about it they said it was a stock photo they use...maybe its time to update the photo. The other thing is that the faucet that you get is your run of the mill generic chrome plated faucet. The description doesn't specify stainless or chrome, but you should know that you aren't getting a higher quality faucet. Bottom line is that this kit is probably good for someone who doesn't want to put the effort into piecing together a nitro system. If you have a little bit of time and are willing to look around you can put together a kit of similar quality for considerably less money...or a better kit for about the same money.

Can a CO2 distribution manifold be used with nitrogen? Or would a special distribution manifold be needed?
R O on Feb 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That will be fine, the gas blend makes no difference to the manifold. As long as there is pressure, and gas, the manifold will send it where you want to send it. -Mike W, Northern Brewer
Is it possible to get this with a pin lock assembly instead of ball lock?
C H on Jul 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we are not able to make substitutions on these kits. You would need to purchase the parts individually.
Do you have brass stout faucets with this kit?
C H on May 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We can only get the chrome plated stout faucets. Cheers!
