Brutally Delicious - Savagely Efficient - Rekt-ification of Flavor
This grain is amazing. I tried it for the first time in a hoppy beer that I wanted to have a solid malt backbone. I combined the Barke with some Golden Promise and Carapils to make a most refreshing and malty pale ale that really allowed the hops to shine. I can't speak to how this Pilsner malt performs in a lager or Pilsner, but in an American-style hoppy ale, it worked wonderfully.

Great Malt!
I used 8 lbs of Weyermann Barke Pilsner malt in a 10 gallon batch of Pilsner, with 10 lbs of Salzgitter Pilsner Malt (which I have used many times previously). I could not believe how malty this base malt is. It is maltier than any Maris Otter I have ever used. It has a very clean, but malty flavor (not bread crusts or biscuit, just malty). I am going to use 2 lbs less in my next Pilsner as it was too malty. This would be a great malt for a Festbier, malty German lagers, and IPA's. I would recommend blending this malt with standard pilsner malt, if you don't want an extremely malt beer.
