The MegaPot 1.2™ is not only a workhorse, but a well thought-out and praise-worthy brewday essential trusted by countless homebrewers. No details were missed on this stainless steel kettle customizable to suit your exact needs.

Try one for yourself and see what keeps the positive reviews coming!

The 8-gallon MegaPot 1.2™ is ideal for performing a full wort boil on any 5 gallon batch. A full boil helps to improve hop utilization and avoid caramelizing the malt extract. This homebrew kettle is a great upgrade for any extract brewer, but will work for 5 gallon All-Grain boils as well. While it can work as an All-Grain mash tun using the Universal False Bottom, the smaller size will limit your grain bill to lower gravity beers.

Ideal for: boiling no more than 5-6 gallons of wort. Smaller partial mash or Brew-In-A-Bag systems.

If you are adding the Titan™ False Bottom, use the optional IsoFlow™ 3/8" Hose Barb to connect it to the bulkhead using some 3/8" high-temp tubing.

Good Pot
This is a very good brew pot. I haven't had a boil over with it yet. Very good size. You can throw a lot of heat to the triclad bottom without danger of scorching. Heats up quickly. The only problem I see is that most extract kits that I use recommend using 2.5 gal of water to steep the grains and it takes 3.5 gal to get the water level up to the thermometer. It doesn't seem to be a big problem starting with more water.

I should have gotten one of these years ago!
Acquiring a pot that will allow me to boil a full 5+ gallon batch is something I should have done years ago! You definitely need the spigot on the bottom, because when full this pot would be dangerous to lift due to the weight. I did not get the thermometer because I already have the Thermostar thermometer with the 12" probe (also a terrific product!) and it works fine to monitor the temperature.

Megapot
The front valve makes moving the wort extremely easy. All around just a good sturdy pot

Pefect for the fledgling brewer
I purchased the 8 gal MegaPot to get a better handle on brewing 5 gallon batches. Since I am not quit ready for all-grain brewing, this pot works perfectly for beginner and intermediate partial mash kits. My only regret was that I didn't order the MegaPot with the Brewometer installed; this was installed later however. The pot brings water to a rolling boil very efficently and then keeps a boil with little heat from the burner. When I am all done, the pot cleans up nicely and is quickly ready for the next brew. Next to the Blichmann Floor Burner, the 8 gal MegaPot was the perfect compliment to my homebrewing journey.Things that aren't so great about it: Nothing to report here. It's a great product!

Mega handy; mega quality
This kettle is really nice to use although I added the "spigot" which I really don't use since I submerge the kettle into the sink to cool it rather than using a wort chiller. The handles make it possible to simply pick it up without using hot pads and the construction is overall flawless.

It is an amazing pot
It is an amazing pot with enough room for everything I do. Very even heating. If you are going to buy this pot I recommend getting it with the thermometer built in, I did not and really wish that I did.

Seems to be high quality
Haven't yet used it but by all appearances, this seems to be a very good quality brew kettle. Can't wait to get it all "Worty"!

Great addition
Simply put, I love this brew kettle. Even though I do 5 gallon batches the extra room helps avoid boil overs and we all know how messy that can be. The temperature gauge is a great feature that I find very useful, especially with the steeping process. I would buy this pot again, hands down.

excellent brew kettle
My partner and I are extract brewers at this time. Bought this kettle in the summer of 2014 after our first brew. Ours has the ball valve and the temperature probe. I have no experience with another vessle other than a soup kettle of 3 gallon capacity from our kitchen that we used for our first kit brew. We have used the MegaPot exclusively since then. This MegaPot has performed well for us for 5 gallon batches after 35 brews now. I like the reinforced rim, very stiff, does not distort out of shape when lifting with 5 gallons of wort in it. The handles are very securely attached, no sign of lossening. The temp probe and ball valve do flex after installation, I suppose because of rubber gaskets. We were careful not to overtighten these accessories so as not to ruin the gaskets. There is an occasional drip from these which we then retighten gently, no big deal. We hunted around for appropriate brushes for cleaning the ball valve and hose fitting after each brew. We use an immersion chiller in our operation and the chiller has to be finagled some past the temp probe to get it immersed properly. It is in our plan to go to all-grain in the future and our hope is this kettle will be a part of that. All things considered, this is an excellent brew ketle for extract brewing.

Awesome Pot....
I have used this product to brew as well as other cooking adventures. Pot came well packages and in perfect condition. Great pot I must say... construction is super good. Nice heavy construction that will last a lifetime. Holds heat very well. Pay the few extra bucks and get one of these... I have already purchased more than one.

I am having a problem getting my tubing over the release valve. The tubing sent was too small, it would fit inside the spout, but not the outside. I went and purchased some 1/2" outer diameter which is 3/8" inner diameter which is also too small.
ChemGuy50 on Aug 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The barbed fitting included with the Megapot fo the outside of the kettle is 1/2" NPT and works best with 1/2" inside diameter tubing. If you have a false bottom for the kettle, they usually have a 3/8" NPT barb and 3/8" inner diameter tubing works best for that.
Does this come with a false bottom?
R I on May 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This kettle does not come with a false bottom, the false bottom must be purchased separately. Along with thermoplastic tubing, and an Isoflow hose barb to make it functional.

I hope that this helps!
I just received my Mega pot and I am having trouble getting the dip tube into the bulkhead, it seems like the dip tube is too large for the opening in the bulkhead. Any suggestions?
David C on Feb 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello David,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! One good option, would be to put the dip tube in the freezer, and the bulkhead in warm/hot water for a couple of hours. This helps to ease the tolerance between the bulk head/diptube. I have never had a case where this didn't work, but if not, we will get you taken care of! Let me know if you have any further questions!
Brewed my first batch with this kettle. Worked out great overall. Best kettle I have used thus far. Had one slight problem when inserting and testing the ball valve and thermometer. I had some leaking from both inserts even after tightly screwing on the stock nuts, washers, and o-rings. I followed the provided directions easily enough. I got the leaking to stop during boiling and was minimal during immersion chilling. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem and might have a quick solution. Thanks!
J O on Feb 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I did not have this problem. However, tighter is not always better in this situation. What I did was teflon tape all the threads for everything. Then I just hand tightened the ball valve and thermometer with the provided o-rings and nuts. I made sure the o-rings were against the pot on the inside and the outside. Once I hand tightened the screws it held water great. Sometimes if you over tighten the o-ring it can spread it too thin and cause liquid to flow around it.

But overall, no, I did not have this happen to me.

Hope this helps
Does the ball valve come with a hose barb connection on it?
W E on Dec 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this has a 1/2" hose barb on the ball-valve.
I've read this kettle can be used with an induction cook top, due to it being magnitized, Is this true? Thanks so much!
I A on Nov 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can if a magnet sticks to the bottom it will work. I have not used on my cooktop yet but will probably use it indoors for large batches of stock or boiling seafood.
Can this kettle configured with the ball valve and thermometer be immersed into a sink filler with water and ice for wort cooling? Or, do you recommend using an immersion chiller? I'm thinking the thermometer may not be waterproof.
Peter M on Oct 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would not risk immersing the thermometer in an ice bath. An immersion chiller is a sound investment for the long haul. Then you can use the thermometer on your new Mega-Pot to see when you hit the correct temp for pitching your yeast.
Where is the MegaPot made? Is the thermometer adjustable on the exterior so that it can tilt up? How high up is the thermometer on the inside of the pot (or how much wort is necessary to cover the thermometer prob)?
E F on Jul 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I did not purchase the pot with the thermometer option. Mine came with the threaded bushing for a valve located 1.5 inches above the bottom of the pot.
Does it come with a universal false bottom?
R I on May 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It does not come standard. It is an additional accessory.
Is the bottom completely flat? I have a ceramic, flat stovetop?
Bruce D on May 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is completely flat, should work great. It's about 12" in diameter by the way. Good solid pot.
Can I boil 7 gal? I brew 6 gal batches and it calls for using 7 gal for boil.
R I on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can boil 7 gallons in this kettle. Just be sure to watch out for boil overs at the beginning of the boil. I hope that this helps!
How permanent are the measuring gal marks in the kettle? Is the valve welded?
R I on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The gallon marks are etched into the metal, so they should be quite permanent. The valve is not welded in - it attaches with a nut and o-ring, but is sturdy and leak-free.
Does it come with a warranty?
R I on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Never actually inquired or thought about a warranty. I did find the valve and parts went together well without issue. I used a couple pliers to tighten threads prior to hand installing into the pot.
What is the average boil off rate for a 60 minute boil? Could do it myself, but figured I'd ask here first!
John H on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: John,

Thank you for your question. Average boil off is usually about 1 gallon an hour.

Cheers!

What diameter hose do I need to get to fit the ball valve?
D A on Feb 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hey Dan,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! You will need 1/2" ID hose to fit on the barb on the ball valve. I hope that this helps, let me know if you have any further questions!
I have an immersion chiller which is 11.4 inches diameter, (25' long 1/2'' OD). Will I be able to use it with this pot? looks like 12.6'' diameter leaves very little room for my chiller. I assume it can be done without the thermometer but can my chiller fit with the thermometer?
H A on Dec 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would skip the thermometer then. Its 3 inch probe would make it difficult at the least to get an immersion chiller into the pot. It probably can work if doing a full 5 gallon boil and just have the chiller on top of the thermometer or sometimes you can tilt the chiller to get it past the probe still. If its a boil kettle I do not think a thermometer would prove essential so you could just skip that feature. I hope this helps! Cheers!
Can anyone confirm if the false bottom barb comes with the kettle hardware? I received mine today and it came with the dip tube accessory but not the false bottom accessory. Please help!
J O on Oct 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The isoflow valve that comes with the megapot and when ordered by itself comes with the dip tube by default. We sell the special barb for $5 or a female threaded barb would work as well. Product41431
According to the description, the pot has volume markings per gallon. If going through the trouble/cost of producing volume markings, why not at the quart level?
T O on May 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That might be a good idea for future refinement of the product, as it does not have that now. We'll pass this along to product development to consider. Thank you for the suggestion! -Mike W, Northern Brewer
If I buy just the valve one does it come with a diptube?
R I on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it most certainly does come with a dip tube. I hope that this helps!
Can I get a picture of the inside?
R I on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Rladd,

Here is a picture of the inside of a 10 gal. aside from the extra 2 gal. they are the same.

Cheers! ![](https://northernbrewer.zendesk.com/attachments/token/tIcV5z2rVccM2UnyVrPx3UYjr/?name=IMG_1866.JPG)
What size O rings should be used for the bulkhead and thermometer and where can I get them? Are there special food grade of high temperature rings?
Gary C on Apr 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These o-rings here are the right size and material. See the link!

http://www.northernbrewer.com/weldless-kettle-bulkhead-o-ring-set

These are food-grade, and can withstand the temps of homebrewing uses with no issues. The same ones are used for the thermometers. -Mike W, Northern Brewer
Can a 1/2" kettle screen be used with this?
J A on Feb 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The MegaPots use IsoFlow or EZ Clean bulkheads, which are not compatible with the kettle screen.
can this pot (mega pot 1.2) accomodate a bazooka strainer internally?
J B on Nov 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: When ordered with a ball valve we send it with our isoflow bulk head with a dip tube. There is not 1/2" threading internally on that bulkhead so it can not work with a bazooka screen. We can sell the kettles over the phone without the bulkhead. So it would just be a drilled kettle then you could get a bulkhead with 1/2" female threading and then you could install a bazooka screen. I hope this makes sense! Cheers! James J.
Greetings, does the IsoFlow bulkhead include the dip tube, or does that need to be purchased separately?
T I on Sep 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The dip tube is included with this kettle if you select either of the provisions that include the ball valve
