The deck is stacked with a whole lotta hops. Four of a kind, in fact – Magnum, Chinook, Centennial and Citra. And get ready for the bluff, because this session brew drinks lighter than it appears. You won’t find roasted coffee or bittersweet chocolate here, just smooth malty caramel with a touch of toast, and an intense hop presence with pine, citrus and fruity notes that stand no chance of getting lost in the shuffle. Play your cards right? There’s no way to play them wrong with this kit. Any way you brew it, you’ll be coming up aces.

This beer looks like Darth Vader but drinks like Princess Leia. You go girl.February 19, 2014Best Black IPA I have ever brewed and best Black IPA I have ever had. This is the second Black IPA that I have brewed. First was different Black IPA recipe and was okay but this is the best I have ever had. It is hoppy on the nose, hoppy on the taste and the best Black IPA I have ever drank. It will always be on my beer menu at my home pub. Cheers - 17.May 28, 2016Wow- Great Dark IPA recipe from NBThis is one of the first all grain kits I have made and it has me sold on all grain brewing. Seems to have just a bit more fresh taste to the beer. I have started by using the BIAB method and has been very successful. A slight bit more work/time than extract brewing but worth it. I missed my OG by a few points because of BIAB, but I just supplement with a small amount of a neutral DME to bring it up to suggested OG. This is a dark brown very tasty IPA, very easy to drink. Oh how the citra hops add to the overall product. I just dry hopped in my primary and did not even go to the secondary on this kit. Cold crashed to clear it before I kegged and it is extremely clean/clear. It is such a great combination of malts and hops that NB has come up with. I will certainly do this kit again. Highly recommend it even if you have never had a dark IPA as I am quite sure you will be impressed!April 24, 2016Very smoothAt first I was a bit unsure that this IPA was really gonna be Black, It was Brown after I brewed it The longer it was in the secondary the darker it became. But now I Am very pleased it has a nice malty start and a very smooth hop finish. Very nice Black IPAMarch 14, 2016Active fermentation Use Blow offBrewed this yesterday. Holy crap is the fermentation active!! Krausen climbing out of the blowoff tube (I mash around 148-150). Fun brew day with all the hop additions. The recipe calls for .5 oz of Magnum hops, just put the whole 1 oz bag they provide in as I didn't want to throw it awayBoil of the Ace of Spades Black IPAFebruary 19, 2017Purchased
3 months agoFantastic dark IPAAbsolutely one of my favorite brews. Savoring the very last bottle as I type. I will be ordering this one again!November 14, 2015you have to wait foryou have to wait for this IPA to condition ,after 2 weeks in a keg the taste was way to bitter so i put it in the back. Ran low on beer 2 months later & it smoothed out to the best IPA ever!February 16, 2016My New Fav brew!Just tapped this phenomenal brew on Sunday. All I can say is wow!! Excellent balance of hops and malts. Have already ordered another kit, this will become a regular in my keezer!!March 17, 2017Ace of Spades is delicious! Here in the great Northwest, we would call this a CDA, Cascadian Dark Ale, because it has dark, roasted flavor and aroma like a porter, but with a great hop profile, both aroma and flavor. But whatever you call it, it's delicious! I've already ordered it again.October 10, 2015Great BeerI've been brewing on and off for about 3 years and this might have been one of the best kits I have brewed. Even had a friend who I gave a couple to really like it and he's not a ipa fan at all. I will be brewing this beer againApril 19, 2016
