Better yet, the port is perfectly sized for all your standard homebrew tools, from a universal carboy bung and standard blowoff hose to a testing thief and auto-siphon.

Easy to clean, just pop it in the top rack of your dishwasher and run it through a standard cycle. You can also use your standard homebrew cleaners and sanitizers.

Universal lid- not a fan
The universal lid pops off when wet. I've read the Q/A, and I understand it works better when dry, but this is a problem. When you sanitize things, they are wet. This feature fails to operate in normal use conditions... This really needs to be addressed. I will say though... One workaround not mentioned in the Q/A is to flip the gasket upside down- wider rings at the bottom. This did manage to work and keep the lid from popping off when wet. I'm not sure if it will damage the gasket long term but it's working for now.

Lids popping off
Like another review I read, I took advantage of the (4) pack of the plastic 6.5 Gal fermenters. I have tried all of the different suggestions to keep these on, and even trying different lids with different fermenters. The final solution was about 10 feet of Gorilla tape to force the lid in place. I got on the website out of frustration to see almost all of the reviewers experiencing the same problem. This isn't the first time I have been amazed at a product getting past quality control from Northern Brewer.

Pops out.
"That's what she said" but seriously make a top with a perfect seal. Not this. It is effective as the old top. Which isn't.

Awesome Lid
I got much better seal on this than the screw lid that came with my 6.5 Gallon Plastic Big Mouth Bubbler. before I saw no activity on the airlock. Now it bubbles away. I am going to buy more on my next order. One negative is the replacement seal cost almost as much as a new lid.

Had a few Big Mouths to Shut
This product works great. It fits all of my big mouth fermenters and is super easy to use.As other reviewers have mentioned I noticed that the lids were forced up during fermentation but in my case the lower two or three rings always still kept their seal.It really beats trying to thread on tops any more and once the first two active days of fermentation are done I simply push the lid down in if I really feel like it but have stopped doing even that.I have had most success with letting the seals almost dry for my glass carboys and just going right from the sanitizing bucket for the plastic fermenters.I don't want to go back so I will gladly trade you guys with the one start reviews my old lids for your universal ones...

Big mouth bubbler
Absolutely love these fermenters. So easy to clean and work with!

Universal Lid
Much easier to get off. Other lid took 2 people, Wipe the lid and fermenter top dry to make a tight seal, as the fermentation has a tendency to push the lid up for a couple days

Worked Great!!
I believe it works much better then the screw lid that came with my Glass Big Mouth EVO2. No complains and it seems to have sealed well. So far so good

I have the earlier version of the glass big mouth carboy. Will the universal lid fit that earlier version?
Derrick R on Oct 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it fits great. But when fitting on the lid, you need to let the lid dry a little sanitizing it. It doesn't want to stay on when wet. It slips off a little. But afterwards it seems to fit great
What diameter opening will this universal lid fit? I know its design for BMB, but I'd like to try to use on a different fermenter.
J P on Jul 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't know the diameter, but I have an older BMB, and the universal lid does not fit, I've gone back to using the original lid. When I complained about it they suggested I use tape to secure the universal lid, to keep it from popping up.
will this lid accept the small 3 piece airlock
T A on May 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Charlie,

Thank you for your question. It will with the use of a small universal stopper as well.

Cheers!
What is the smallest inside diameter this will fit in?
R C on Apr 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I really don't know I have only used them in my big mouth bubbler that is the only thing I have they would fit.
I just received two of these lids that I purchased based on your item description.. What blow off hose fits this size? Surely not the standard 1.25 outside diameter vinyl tubing.. Mine doesn't fit snug at all, and I've confirmed the opening to be over 1.25 inches with calipers.
A Z on Nov 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You could create a blow off b putting 3/8 ID vinyl tubing through the hole in the universal bung that is recommended to fit that hole. I hope this helps! Cheers!
Are the gaskets available separately? Will a dual ported version of the lid be available soon? Thanks
Justin T on Nov 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, extra lid gaskets are available and the dual port lid is available also. Check out page 34 in the Fall 2015 catalog.
I have one of the first versions of BMB that came with the screw on lid, that never has made a good seal. I am wondering if this new type of lid will work on the original style of BMB with better results. Thanks.
Susan E on May 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That is the intention, this Universal Lid should fit on all models of Big Mouth Bubbler that were produced. It seals in a different way than the original lid design, and ought to work well on an early Big Mouth Bubbler. _Mike W, Northern Brewer
Is it possible to purchase the "old style" screw on lid? This new universal lid often pops during very active fermentation and doesn't work well.
N I on Apr 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The old screw-on style lids for the glass fermentors are no longer available. The universal lid performs best when the interior of the Bubbler's mouth is dry at the time the lid is inserted.
Can I use the old screw lid to place atop this seal? That would be perfect!
M R on Mar 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Maj,

Yes! If you still have one of the old style lids you can absolutely do that.

Cheers!
My lid seems to rise during particularly active fermentations. Is it still sealing the Big Mouth airtight?
C O on Nov 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Your lid may be forced up a little during the first days of fermentation. The Big Mouth Bubbler is sealed air tight as long as one ring of the seal on the Universal lid is touching the carboy neck. The lid being forced up by the internal pressure of the Big Mouth Bubbler actually shows that it is sealing completely.

Thanks for the question
