American Wheat Beer All-Grain Kit

SKU: U1264

A wheat ale with medium hopping and a fairly clean, neutral finish - a spritzy, refreshing warm-weather crowd-pleaser.

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts. It is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Like their German cousins, American wheat beers feature large proportions of malted wheat in the grain bill and are naturally a bit cloudy in appearance. Unlike German Hefe Weizen, though, American wheat beers have a bit more hop character and are fermented with a milder-tasting yeast, resulting in a more clean, neutral finish. With a spicy noble hop aroma and tart finish, it's a spritzy, refreshing crowd-pleaser.

Keg Emptied in Record Time Review by Rick
Served this at a party and the keg was dry in record time. The beer had universal appeal and everyone went back for more and more.
I knew it was going to be a crowd pleaser, but I never thought I'd be cleaning my keg out already.
I brewed it using a 10gal cooler and keggle setup. Used the Safale US05 dry yeast, pitched dry. Primary for 5 weeks or so.
Attenuated to about 1.005. (Posted on 7/28/14)

Great beer! Review by Itchygomey
I lightened up the hops just a bit (.8oz willamette and moved the cascade to 5 minutes) in an effort to please my BMC friends. I just cracked the first one and it's great! I think it would be great as is, but mellowing it a bit didn't hurt anything either. As usual, great job NB! (Posted on 4/27/14)
Just plain good Review by Tim
This kit demonstrates a lot of really great things at once. First, it's a great reminder that simple recipes can result in fantastic beer. Its light and approachable, but it has more than enough flavor to keep me happy. Wheat also has a wonderful way of amplifying body in a low-gravity brew. Finally, as you would expect from a wheat, it's ready to go the minute it's carbonated. (Posted on 2/8/14)
Great brew Review by brianpablo
A delicious and simple brew. I carbonated mine a bit more than I usually do, based on John Palmer's recommendations for priming different styles of beer. Easy to make and easy to drink. I really enjoyed getting back to basics after trying out recipes that were a bit beyond my skill level. It's my first wheat beer, since I've never made a hefeweizen (I noticed the NB recipe here didn't get great reviews). (Posted on 12/4/13)
Great base kit Review by mike
I have used this as a base for a few different types of wheat beers, add some fruit and honey and it becomes a unique beer that taste awesome. (Posted on 11/25/13)
Excellent beer! Review by Thomas
I just reordered a couple more since I make 10-gallon batches. Last time, I had some leftover White Labs WLP001 California Ale and used it. The results were terriffic. I'll keep ordering a few of these throughout the year to keep it on tap. (Posted on 10/18/13)
Just Great Review by Tony
There is a perfect amount of tartness that comes from the hops. Well balance, light citrus, light tartness, light floral aromas and flavors. 5/5, perfect summer session beer.

Awesome Wheat Beer Review by Cody
I have made this twice and it is normally the first one everyone heads back to. Nice clean finish and a wonderful taste. It will be one of my constant summer rotations. (Posted on 4/28/13)
Better Than Hefe Review by Andy
My second all-grain using a 10g cooler mash tun. Plugged the recipe into Beersmith and let it go. Like another reviewer, my mash got a little cold. Attenuated down to 1.006 (5% ABV), slightly more than expected. Primary for about 1.5 weeks; kegged 5 gallons and force carbed after cold crashing for 4 days at about 40F. No secondary. Has a perfect wheat ale lemon yellow color with appropriate shine and pours a pure white head that diminishes fairly quickly to a sturdy white lace that lasts until the next pour. Fantastic citrus flavor and aroma. The hop character is what sets this apart from other wheat ales. The hops are sitting there with the wheat and yeast saying "Hey, we are just as important as these guys."

A nice easy kit with a one step mash, 60 minute boil, and in my humble opinion, no need for a secondary fermentation or fining. (Posted on 9/19/12)

Classic Summer Brew! Review by DB
Perfect for those hot summer days! Low ABV (got 4.2%) & clean refreshing taste make it a must brew for summer. Added 3 lbs. of orange blossom honey to last 5 minutes of boil (added subtle sweetness/dryish finish/& pleasant aroma). Will be brewing every summer! Thanks NB! (Posted on 8/6/12)
Great summer session beer. Review by Steve
This gets good reviews from every friend that has tasted it. I went with Wyeast 1010 as the yeast and the brew ends up slightly tart, almost lager-like, with wheat making it crisp and refreshing, not heavy on malt or hops flavors, this is a very balanced, lower ABV brew you could drink all day. If you are looking for a more estery flavored wheat, I would suggest the kit with Weizen 3068, or Belgian 3942. (Posted on 6/4/12)
Perfect lawn mower beer Review by Ethan
This beer is easy to make and even easier to drink. Perfect beer for those hot summer days ahead. (Posted on 5/22/12)
Delicious Review by Robert
Probably my favorite NB kit so far. I'm not usually into wheats, but the slightly higher hop rate really does the trick. Great recipe, will definitely brew again - likely 10 gallons next time. (Posted on 4/10/12)
Very Good Review by Dforlow
I almost rated this beer 5 stars but maybe because it is not one of my fav styles I gave it 4 stars. I thought it turned out very well, tastes great, a good session beer. Citrus notes. This a beer I have served to my friends who only drink commercial beer and they liek it too. (Posted on 12/13/11)
First All Grain Brew Review by Pete
This was my fist all grain brew and it came out very well. Even my father said this is a beer that he could drink every day. Bought a 2nd batch and am thinking abuot adding the honey as TonyR suggested. (Posted on 10/17/11)
Great summer ale Review by Shaun
after the first batch with lemon zest and grains of paradise, made a second batch using orange zest and crushed coriander. makes an amazingly refreshing summer beer that is gone before you realize it! will be a regular summer brew at my house (Posted on 9/23/11)
Meh Review by Mark_NJ
It was good and true to the style. It was just a little lack luster for my personal taste. I should have probably brewed a Hefeweizen instead. Regardless it was a good kit easy to brew tasted pretty good. "Its not you American Wheat Beer it me" (Posted on 9/23/11)
Great Summer Beer Review by TonyR
I'm on my third kit, this is a hit with friends and family. I've been adding 3 lbs Wildflower Honey with 5minutes left in the boil. (Posted on 7/31/11)
Great Review by Eric
Currently enjoying the last one of this great session beer. I'm a hophead but brewed this to please the wife. Ended up pleasing everyone. It's been a hot summer and this beer is extremely refreshing. I'll be brewing this every summer for life! Everyone of my friends say that it is way better than any other wheat beer they've tried. I hit 85% so ended up a little higher in ABV department (no complaints). Fermenting temp was a little higher than I would of liked (76F) but still came out great. Stop reading this and buy it, you won't be disappointed. (Posted on 7/24/11)
crisp and clean Review by Jersey Fresh
Great beer for a hot summer day on the patio. No frills, straight up wheat beer. I will be adding blueberries and honey to step up the wow factor for my next batch. With so much local produce in abundance right now, anything would do fine in this beer. (Posted on 6/21/11)
Good summer ale Review by Shaun
Added 2g paradise seed (crushed) and zest from 2 lemons toward the end of the boil. Mash temp ended a little low at 149 so ended a little drier (FG 1.007 from 1.044). Nice, refreshing, and a change from my usual 9-10% abv brews (Posted on 5/30/11)
Crisp and Refreshing Review by Niemskills
This kit is straight forward and easy to brew. I pitched a small starter of American Ale II and the beer came out smooth and refreshing with a nice light banana nose. You can't beat the price and turnaround time (4 weeks to bottle conditioned) for this classic summer refresher. (Posted on 5/11/11)
Make this beer. Review by Sandman80214

The Best Review by Deeewayne
I used this all grain kit and I think I found my new favorite beer. I made 4 different types of beer in the last few months. This one was the favorite of all my friends. (Posted on 4/13/11)
Consistently Good Review by EMU
I've done this kit twice now and it has been awesome each time. And, I like that it just tastes like a great wheat and doesn't have any other strong flavors like banana or citrus - just a good solid wheat. (Posted on 12/2/10)
Best Hefe I've ever had Review by SoopirV
I'm not a fan of wheat beers; let me get that out up front. I brewed this because it's the only kind of beer my wife seems to like. Maybe I did it wrong, which is why it doesn't taste like the commercially available wheats, but wow- for the first time in the history of my 7 year marriage, we're both drinking the same thing! (Posted on 8/22/10)
very tasty Review by Supernaut
This brew turned out great kept it at 68-70 degrees during primary and 74-76 degrees secondary for 6 weeks and it was fantastic, creamy mouthful and nice clean finish. maybe do double batch, and hide it till next summer (Posted on 8/16/10)
