Details

One of our most popular kits for well over a decade, this American-style pale ale is clean, dry, and very hoppy. American hops are the driving force of this beer, featuring the unmistakable citrus (some say grapefruit) aroma of Cascade up front as well as its smooth bittering at the finish. Pale caramel malt counterpoints the hopping with a sweet grain aroma and gives this appetizing ale its medium body and deep gold color.

Like all the previous reviews state, dry hop this with 1 oz. of cascade. This is an awesome beer you can drink anytime of the year. (Posted on 5/10/13)

Needs more aroma Review by Hornetjockey

This is a nice, crisp, modest ale with a slight malt sweetness, but in my opinion you would do well to another dose of cascade as a dry-hop, maybe even some more as a late boil additions, as without it this beer is pretty bland. (Posted on 3/13/12)
lacking flavor Review by Rich

This recipe is quite mild and simple. If you are expecting it to taste like Summit EPA or something close then this is not the kit for you, just being honest. I have made other NB kits that are much better, Ex: Black IPA... (Posted on 3/10/12)

Great Kit Review by Jake

Do you like Summit Extra Pale Ale or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? Are you sick of paying 8 bucks for a 6 pack (or more) for these beers? If you answered yes than this is the kit for you.

I've made the extract kit in the past (awesome), tried my hand at the all-grain version and didn't add enough bittering hops at the 60 minute addition. I had some horizon on hand and was trying to copy summit EPA so I added 0.5 oz of horizon at 60 and 0.5 oz cascade at 30 with the 1 oz at flameout- I should have just stuck with the recipe because the beer tastes watered down compared to my previous brew- just not enough bittering hops. From now on I'm sticking with the NB recipe when I make this one, it's no wonder this is one of their best selling kits.

Very Nice. Review by Brian
This was a great brew. One of the best I have made so far (all grain). Just the right amount of bitterness. Crisp, clean with a golden hue. Highly recommended. (Posted on 6/22/11)
A great little summer beer Review by Josh
I brewed this beer with the addition of dry hopping an ounce of Cascade. Mine came out a golden color where I was expecting a little more amber. The beer is crisp and clean with a great citrus aroma and flavor, with a slight orange peel bitterness. I could drink this all through the summer and probably will! Simple, cheap, and delicious. i can see why this is one of northern brewer's most popular kits Review by brian

i have made both the extract and all grain versions of this kit and this is an exceptional beer. this beer is crisp and clean when fermented at low temps and the cascade hops provide just enough bitterness and flavor to offset the malt. this is not an overly hoppy beer so hop heads should plan on buying a couple of oz's of cascade hops to increase the flavor additions.
