It's brown, it's named after a large North American ungulate, and its name suggests oral incontinence. Ah, we market product with our minds, but we drink beer with our mouths! Which is why this American brown ale is your new favorite session beer. Dense layers of malt, caramel, baking chocolate, and a hint of light-roast coffee give way to reveal a hop character you'll be surprised to find if you're used to drinking English brown ale. The finish is complex but balanced, and the gravity is not so high as to keep you from having another.

- Just can't beat the slobber Review by pellis007

I'd previously brewed the extract version of the Caribou Slobber and was really looking forward to trying the all grain version. The extract version was my favorite brew, but this all grain version blows it away! OG was 1.058 and FG ended up at 1.010. 3 weeks primary and today is 3 weeks bottle conditioning. I can't believe how good this is at 3 weeks and I know from previous experience this will continue to improve with age. No extract "twangy" taste, very fresh, nice hop finish. I added 10.4 oz of brown sugar at flame out which bumped up the ABV to 6.3% and adds a nice taste. Carbed at 2.9 vols cause I like this fizzy. Perfect carbonation in my opinion. This brew will always get 5 stars from me. (Posted on 3/3/13)Rating - Time is your friend Review by Nick

I'm begging you, let this beer age. It is ok when it is young, but at week 3-4 in the keg this beer went from tolerable to spectacular; I would say better than the original. The complexities of this malty brew demand your patience! I promise, it will be worth your wait (Posted on 1/9/13)Rating - Amazing Beer - Amazing Complexity Review by Jim

This beer is so good. I make it approximately every other month. I do a second fermentation for two weeks and then keg it. It has three hop additions yet it's not hoppy like an IPA. The grain bill adds complexity and you will taste it! This truely is a fantastic beer. As a matter of fact, it's one of my favorite beers even compared to quality commercial beers. I did BIAB with this one. Turned out great!. As was stated earlier, the longer it sits the better it gets. If you can keep it that long. (Posted on 12/3/12)Rating - GREAT COPY OF Moose Drool! or a great english brown. Review by jay8454

I modified recipe and added 2#'s of corn sugar
and used Wyeast 1056 at first pitch.
O.G. 1.084
2 weeks in primary fermenter
2 weeks in fermenter #2
Racked to fermenter #3 and added White Labs 001 California Ale yeast for another weeks.
F.G. 1.020 7 %
I rack 1/2 into small keg and other into 22.5 bottles.
Great English brown ale!
First smell is that chocolate candy bar like smell backed with caramel.
Tastes is pallet cleansing and boozy but very drinkable.
This is a great kit I like how NB puts them together, great directions.

I brewed this for my brother in-laws wedding. It sat in bottles for 3 weeks after it was ready to drink. This brown ale was so good I had continually drink them until I could put my finger on that tasty note. It starts out with a small amount of bitter chocolate and transitions to a slightly sweet malty toasted caramel cookie which finishes smooth and creamy. It could be best describe as toasty marshmallows. As expected this delicious brown was gone by the time I went for #6. Now I'm going to make it again and hope I cure my craving. I never had the 'real deal' but heard so much about that beer that I knew I had to try it. I was pleasantly surprised. Not a traditional brown ale IMO but more toastiness and stouty. Smooth and easy, this is a good session beer.Rating
I opted for the Windsor yeast but next time will Wyeast just because I can.
It's only been in the keg for 3 weeks and i think it will get even better in the next few weeks......if it lasts that long. (Posted on 10/5/12) - Awesome ABA Review by Sean

Great beer. Easy to make, and tastes great. The longer it sits the better it gets. I sampled the beer after 2 weeks in the bottle, and dont get me wrong it was good but after 6 weeks in the bottle its MUCH better!!! (Posted on 4/12/12)Rating - Best beer ever Review by Mike

This brew is the best in the world. The grain kit seems to taste the same as the extract kit when the OG is similar. It's not hard to brew this beer all year long. A little dose of Belgian candy after a week or two makes it just sweet enough that you always want another. (Posted on 2/3/12)Rating - Delicious Brown Ale Review by opXus

Left in primary for 1 month. Then bottle conditioned 2 weeks tasted a bit "young". Left in bottle for another week delicious!Rating
I strongly recommend one month fermenting and bottle conditioning for at least 3 weeks! (Posted on 1/23/12) - Will do again Review by Matthew

This turned out great. Mine had almost a tannic bite when young. After 1 month in the fermentors and 3 weeks in the bottle its awesome. (Posted on 1/8/12)Rating - Mmm Mmm Review by Wayne

Ok. My high rating may be because this was my first all-grain kit and I am excited to have something palatable at all, but this beer is severely delicious. If this was in the liquor store i'd buy it regularly.Rating
OG was 1.054. which I was surpried about because, like I said, this was my first all-grain attempt. It ended up at 1.010.
The write-up/description on this is very accurate. Can smell and taste all those notes described. I'll be brewing this one again. Cheers fellow brewers! (Posted on 11/17/11) - Hell yeah! Review by Brady

I can't keep this stuff around. Everybody loves it. I somehow have more friends when I have this in my kegorator. As mentioned before, it gets a little better with some time, but good luck with that. (Posted on 11/11/11)Rating - Great Tasting Beer! Review by Jonathan

I live within 4 miles of Big Sky Brewing and drink Moose Drool all the time. This is a great clone beer! 5 gallons went very quickly. This is a must have on tap! (Posted on 10/16/11)Rating - good after a few weeks aging Review by captainthirsty

This was my first all-grain brew. First taste was disappointing, but after a couple extra weeks aging it was a very good beer. Be patient and age this one a few weeks extra for a really good beer. (Posted on 8/26/11)Rating - Great Beer Review by SkyBrew

Simple to make, great nose, well balanced brown. People love it. And it's pretty inexpensive! Put it in my kegerator and it was ready in 2 days and now is great. I will brew this again for sure! (Posted on 7/21/11)Rating - Great American Brown Review by William

I did a side by side of the Moose drool and this. I don't know if the real stuff I had was old or what but this kit was far better then the original. Family and friends can't get enough of it so I decided to start making 10 gallon batches of this stuff. Great job NB. (Posted on 6/2/11)Rating - Excellent! Review by Tom-R2

2nd batch, did a double batch this time as it was so good the first time around. Instead of the Wyeast Northwest yeast, I had some Denny's Fav 50 left over from an earlier batch of rye. I also added a small amount of extra Cascade hops at about 20 minutes, which came though nicely. The down side is that it is so good it won't last long . . . . oh well, another excuse to brew some more. (Posted on 5/29/11)Rating - Superb Review by Clint R.

This is an excellent kit. Will definitely brew again. I have received nothing but praise for this beer. This was my first all-grain; had a stuck mash twice, but it still turned out very nice. Needless to say I recommend using rice hulls in the mash. (Posted on 4/5/11)Rating - Favorite Brown Ale Review by Rick D

I have not tried moose drool so i don't know how close the clone was. What I do know is that this is the best brown ale that I have made.NB did a great job on this recipe. I stuck to the recipe and used the liquid yeast, and did a starter.Mine finished at 5.4% ABV. (Posted on 3/15/11)Rating - Good malt backbone -- Great Session Beer Review by Myles

I went for the dry yeast, which gave it more of the bready yeastyness of English browns. I dry-hopped with an ounce of Centennials to give it more in the nose. Really good session brew, with a continental identity complex, next time I will not use the cheap yeast.Rating
I will definitely try this (or something very like it) again. (Posted on 3/5/11) - Good Beer Review by William

Not as close to the real Moos Drool as I was hoping for. However, it is a very tasty brown ale. FYI... As a comparison we did both the all grain and extract kit. Between the two kits the aroma and appearance are identical, the extract kit had a slightly more malty flavor but was really close to the all grain kit. Both are good and I will enjoy drinking them. I love this beer. On my third batch. Fantastic rich flavors with the right amount of hops to offset the malt. i think it's the best clone of moose drool I've encountered.Rating
It's now one of my "house" beers that i try to keep on hand at all times. (Posted on 2/27/10)
