Master Vintner Wine Starter Kit
I purchased this kit back in Oct 2014 to start making wine. It is now June 2015 and I've managed to make 7 - 6 gallon batches of wine to date. This really is a good kit, but a few things fall short of making it a great kit. The corker is pretty much useless. Don't get me wrong, it works, but I would have gladly paid a little extra for a double handle Italian corker which I later purchased. Also, the gravity bottle filler never really stops and can be a bit messy. For the price difference of about a $1 they could swap it out for a spring loaded bottle filler. As for the Big Mouth Bubbler (BMB), it's been great for 6 gallon wine kits without grape skins and it really makes it fun to watch the fermentation process. I did make a 6 gallon kit with grape skins and luckily I happen to have been watching it closely and siphon off about 3 Liters of wine at it's peak. Otherwise I would have wound up with a nice mess. I later added the 3 liters back to the BMB after the yeast had calmed down a bit, ~2hrs later. I'll be using a 7.9 gallon fermentation bucket when making wine with skins now. All in all, for what you get it's a really good package, wouldn't take but about $20 more to make it a great package though.

Master Vintner® Wine Starter Kit Great Way To Get Started
I have made two batches with this kit and have just started a third. It was a great way to begin everything I needed was included, To make my life a bit easier I purchased an additional glass carboy and a floor press as I intend to bottle a few hundred bottles of homemade wine for my cellar, however I believe if you are are only doing a batch here and there the additions are not necessary.

Good start
The items included are all you will need, although a few are not perfect, they are a small inconvenience in the grand scheme. The wine corker could be better, I use a rubber mallet to smash it down. The wine theif also leaks, nothing like what you see in the video. Again, not major points of contention but places to look at upgrades.

New family activity
We are just finishing our second batch and are absolutely loving making wine. We had zero experience or expectations about brewing wine, but it was surprising fun and easy-ish.. The key was to watch the DVD before getting started as it answered a few questions that we certainly would have had. Our first wine was the Italian Amarone - delicious! I would caution you to not fill the primary fermenter up as much as we did, but live and learn. The kit was fantastic, the dvd was informative and the wine was delicious. I highly recommend this kit, even for starters.

This was perfect for my wife
Hi all, My wife was getting kind of jealous since I was making my own beers and having a lot of fun doing it. We ran across the Master Vitner starter kit and I got it for her. It took a bit for her to get the hang of the processes involved as a complete newbie, but everything it came with was all that she needed. We are about a week away from finally tasting her first batch, but it looks and smells like real wine. She was very happy with it.

High quality starter kit for the price!
Just what the title says. It has pretty much everything you need to get started making your own wine!

One recommendation is to spend a few extra dollars and get a different thermometer (comes with a sticker one that goes outside, which may result in false readings), a different degasser as the one included what looks like a piece of string, and a better quality bottle corker.

That being said, I don't think it's worth knocking off a star.

Great Starter Kit
This is a great starter kit that comes with everything needed to get started. This Starter Kit is made for making wine by the use of wine kits. You buy this kit, then a wine kit from a winery. The wine kit includes a bag of juice and some other stuff to make a wine similar to one of theirs. I make country wines out of my own fruit. So, it would have been nice for this kit to have an option of buying all of the chemicals and accessories of the country wine kit, with this kit. If it had this option, I would have given 5 stars. But, I just bought this kit and bought all of the accessories and chemicals from the country wine kit separately. So, I'm all set.

I want to try making Meade, which kit should I purchase, beer or wine?
A shopper on Dec 8, 2016
What other items are needed with this kit?
S A on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You will need bottles to put the wine in. You need ingredients to produce 6 gallons of wine. You can either get ingredients to make your own recipe or order a 6 gallon wine recipe kit. You will want an electric drill as well. That is about it - maybe a funnel. I hope this helps! Cheers!
what is the fermagraf?
RENE R on Mar 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Fermagraf is a heat sensitive, color changing sticker for reading the temprature of your brew. Here is the link to just the fermagraf. http://www.northernbrewer.com/fermagraf
What are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing plastic or glass carboy?
J O on Jan 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Kaleb,

Good question. Glass carboys are going to give you better use over time. They're more resilient to use and could last a lifetime, if you take care of them. The downside is that they're glass and will break if you drop them. They're also heavier.

Plastic carboys are the opposite, basically. They're susceptible to scratching, which can make sterilization challenging, but they won't break if you drop them.

Both will make great wine.
What size is the glass carboy?
J D on Dec 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The glass carboy is 6 gallon
How much or how many bottles of wine does this make?
S T on Dec 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Janelle,

This kit is designed to do 5-6 gallon batches. Which is about 25-30 750ml bottles of wine.
Can I use this with frozen must or grapes? The grapes (Catawba?) I am harvesting ripen over about 4 weeks. Hoping I can find a rainy fall weekend once everything has been picked to start the process.
A S on Aug 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used my kit with the Northern Brewer wine kits, to fruit based wines, and wild grapes I got from my dad. The kit makes fermenting, racking, and bottling a breeze. A word of caution when brewing mainly red wines or some fruit wines is not to tighten the primary fermenter lid too tight with the airlock because these wines can have extremely agressive fermentation and pop the airlock off and sparay your wall. I heard this happen to a guy I know a few times....me. The guys and gals at Northern Brewer provide the best customer service I have received from any industry making it even more fun to make your own wines.
This is my first time buying and making wine. I don't see juice listed.Does this kit come with the juice?
H O on Feb 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, you will need to buy a wine kit (as opposed to this wine *making* kit) or start with fruit or your own or juice, ingredients, etc.
Been reading up on this a bit, Does a primary fermentation of wine "blow off" the way a beer fermentation does? (with lots of foam and stink into a bucket "airlock"?) (I think the answer is "no")
Tim S on Jan 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Each ferment is different. Wine usually will not foam up like beer but it can foam up a decent amount sometimes, and others barely at all. You should leave a little head space just in case. In our 6 gallon kits, we use a 6.5 gallon primary and that is almost always enough head space. Cheers!
Can I use this 6.5 gallon carboy kit with the 1 gallon small juice pack kit?
W I on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but this is not recommended as it allows for extra head space inside the fermenter. A 1 or 3 gallon fermenter would be better suited for a 1 gallon batch.
Do the wine kits have to used all at once? How can the remaining wine be stored if I don't have 25-30, 750ml bottles?
T E on Dec 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Wine kits should be produced as one batch. If you do not have bottles, you can allow it to age for a little longer in the fermenter while you wait to get bottles.
Hi I would like to know if the juice comes with the starter kits
R M on Nov 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hey Bob

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! The starter kits do not come with juice or a recipe kit. The small batch wine starter kits do

but the kit that you are referencing do not.
what do you do with fermagraf also airlocks?
A shopper on Mar 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Fermagraf is a stick-on thermometer, it will be put onto the primary fermenter carboy, so you know the temp of the liquid in it. The airlocks are devices to keep an airtight seal on a fermenter, while allowing the CO2 produced by the fermentation to exit the container. They are usually filled with water, and the CO2 will be bubbling out through it.
What size are the corks
J A on Aug 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The corks in this kit are #8 straight corks, 7/8" x 1 3/4"
What else do I need to make my own wine from my own.grape vineyard I'm in my 3rd year of growing black Spanish grapes
C A on Apr 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You'll want to pick up the Fresh Harvest Upgrade (SKU 8215), which will provide additives and a guide to help you make wine from fresh fruit. You'll also need bottles.
Iam making the Cream Apera Style wine and followed the instructions. Room temp is between 72 and 78 deg. added my yeast 4 days ago. When i first spread it on top like inst says it did get a little frothy and bubbled for a bout a day. is that normal. Suppose to add F-packet and sugar tomorrow.
N A on Feb 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Clifford,

What do you mean by frothed a little bit? Like it had a small amount of foam for a few hours, or a few days? Let me know and I can tell you if anything went wrong.

Cheers,

Jules
What else is needed with this kit? ie. Do I need ingredients? And if so, which ones?
K A on Dec 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Kaitlyn,

Yes, you'd have to get the ingredients also, but we do have a good selection of kits that are very easy to use, and they make a great product!

http://www.northernbrewer.com/winemaking/wine-kits

You would also need wine bottles for bottling day, but that is usually 6 weeks later.

Cheers!

Charles
What wine making kits do I purchase for this? I see that the small batch has options to purchase a Chardonnay or cab sauv starter kit- I don't see those for this size?
W I on Nov 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This starter kit can be used with any of our [pre made wine kits](http://www.northernbrewer.com/winemaking/wine-kits).
