Pack all your brewing power into an effective gravity-fed brewhouse—no need for expensive pumps. The Center of Gravity® is built to brew right out of the box, with everything you need from a 3-way manifold and propane lines to quick clamps for tool-free assembly.

An innovative design delivers a structure both powerful and portable. Sturdy yet surprisingly lightweight, the Center of Gravity® brew stand clocks in at a mere 90 lbs. Choose where you want to have your brew day, the same day. The Center of Gravity® is easy to move and even to travel with—break it down and throw it in the trunk of your car for the ultimate brewcation! Also perfect for brewers who lack the storage space for a more permanently assembled brew stand.

Each burner tier is roughly 19 inches apart, easily accommodating kettles that are up to 19 inches tall, while still allowing gravity to do the work. Our 15 gallon MegaPot 1.2™ is the perfect size for 5 or 10 gallon batches on this brew stand. Be sure to choose kettles that are equipped with a ball-valve for the best performance.

Your Hot Liquor Tank will sit on the very top tier, ready to provide pre-heated sparge water when you're done with the mash.

The middle tier is reserved for your Mash Tun. This is the ideal height for monitoring strike temperature, adding grains, checking mash pH, and watching the flow-rate of the sparge. Precision burner valves allow for direct firing of the mash tun, keeping mash temperatures accurate and allowing even the most complex of step mashes to be performed.

At 26 inches from the floor, the bottom burner tier will hold your boil kettle, ready to catch the runoff from your mash tun. Once you've boiled and chilled the wort, conveniently drain directly into your sanitized fermentor. You could easily gravity feed a counter-flow wort chiller, as well.

Each burner can be controlled independently too. Heat the sparge water while you mash, or start preparing strike water for a second batch, while finishing the boil on the first.

Add our MegaPot 1.2™ Pro All-Grain Brewing System for the ultimate all grain brewing stand.

It’s the last brew sculpture you’ll ever need for making beer at home—or in the wild.

Solid, well built
I purchased the Center of Gravity because I'm getting too old to lift and carry over 100 pounds of hot water used in brewing my 10-gallon all grain batches. I want to let gravity do its thing as much as possible. I ordered the CoG using a 20% off coupon, which reduced the cost of my purchase to $480, plus shipping. The packages arrived quickly (as promised). I found the assembly instructions to be very clear once I viewed the company’s youtube video. It took me about 15 minutes to put all the pieces together. The parts are well constructed and engineered. The stand is strong and solid. It supported most of my 200 pounds when I put it to a test by doing a mini pull-up on the top burner. I was unable to avoid knocking off some of the powder coating on the mast when I first put the burners on the stand. The fit was tight and some of the coating was rubbed off. Not to bare steel but the finish was blemished. Once assembled, I realized that the diameters of the burners are too small to safely support my 15 and 20-gallon brew kettles. I believe the stand is strong enough to support the weight, but these burners leave too much kettle hanging off the sides for me to feel safe.I didn’t read carefully the specifications for this system. It clearly states the size pot that the burners are designed to accommodate. As I didn’t avail myself of the information, I have only myself to blame. I have shipped the unit back to Northern Brewer for a refund. I am out the costs of shipping both ways but that’s the price one pays. Overall, I would recommend the stand for someone using somewhat taller and narrower brew pots and, assuming credit is properly posted to my account, I have no qualms about buying another large ticket item from NB.

Needs upgraded burners and casters
Stand is solid and well engineered. Gravity system is perfect for those with a single pump and short on space. After my first brew I immediately upgraded the gas regulator and burners to BG 12s. Casters would also be a nice option for easy moving around the garage. Overall, I am very pleased.

Same Issue as Bryan
Purchased mine and found the splitter leaked almost no matter whatAfter using gas line tape and tightening very tight it doesnt leak at all and the system is amazing for the price!Issue that hasnt been resolved yet is all three gas lines are the same length so the top gas line which should be a longer gas line prevents the propane tank from being pulled away from the stand... Makes me very nervous when brewing...

Response from Northern Brewer
Hi Adam

We want to make sure that we get you a reliable

leak free

system. In your review you mentioned using some tape

that could actually be the source of the problem. Teflon will not allow the connections to get tight enough to seal.

The connections are pseudo swivel nuts. If the fittings are still able to swivel any

then it's not tight enough. On the splitter end of the long hose

that connection should be tightened with two wrenches. The wrench flats should be basically touching when it's tightened together.

Hopefully these things fix the issues you are encountering. If not

could you contact us directly at brewmaster@northernbrewer.com

We'd like to get this functioning reliably for you.

Great Space Saver
I had the same issue as the other reviewers with the leaks- but after receiving replacement parts promptly from NB, I assume they have fixed this issue with current production. My house is less than 1000sq/ft without a garage, and this easily collapses into my brew closet in my jam room. Perfect if you do not have a place for a permanent system.

Ok brew stand
Construction of the stand is good..hardware is another thing. Alot of leaks from threaded connections had to be addressed... not a bad stand overall but be warned the burners are severely underpowered especially for the boil... after one brew session i refabbed and put a more powerful burner in for the boil..otherwise expext to wait 45 min after sparge to be to a full boil...

Third Time is a Charm
I wanted to update my review. After, the third 3-way splitter was sent, promptly by Northern Brewer, the stand is back in business. The first two leaked propane and no matter how hard you tightened them, they never sealed properly. One thing that buyers should be aware of is that the 3 way connection to the hoses must be tighten strongly not lightly like the "new" video suggests and use two wrenches; one to hold it in place and the other to tighten. Northern Brewer was amazing in responding to the problem and swiftly sent the replacement parts. I am looking forward to using the center of gravity brew stand and will happily recommended Northern Brewer to anyone who is interested in the Brewing Hobby.

Trying to get a sense for how strong this is. Can someone measure the metal thickness for me? Also, how wide is the center post?
T H on Feb 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The center post is 3" diameter and 1/8" wall thickness. The base is 2" square tubing with 3/16" wall thickness. I brew 5 gallon batches and the unit has never leaned or wobbled. I love this piece and it has made brew day a lot smoother. Hope this helps. Unit also has a leveling pad on each base tube.
Is there a mobile base or caster solution that others added to this sculpture? I am looking for an easier way to move it in and out of the garage without disassembling.
A A on Feb 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello Aaron,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! I cannot recommend adding casters to the center of gravity. As it could become a liability issue for Northern Brewer. I do not know of anyone that has added casters to the center of gravity, but I am sure that a set of casters could be mounted to the bottom in place of the leveling feet. If you do decide to go that route, it would void any warranty on the center of gravity. And make sure that you use casters rated at 200 lbs or more with locking mechanisms. I hope that this helps, have a great day!
When assembled, how tall is the COG Brew Sculpture?
Y U on Nov 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Without any kettles on the top

it's about 5' 2" tall.
Will the Mega pot 1.2 work on this? Also is it easy to change out the burners. Are the universal in how the are installed? They are the same style.
C F on Nov 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have a 15 gallon Mega Pot 1.2 and it works great. (Just need to get a couple more) The burners are easily exchangeable. I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to change my boil burner with a Bayou Classic. The burners that come with it aren't overly strong but once you get to temp they will do. You could exchange with the BG10 but not the BG14

Hope that helps. FYI. I would get some gas line tape ahead of time. It is frustrating trying to get the gas manifold and lines tight. Once that was resolved, I'm a fan of the stand
I'm considering this structure instead in a single tier, but I've already got two Chugger pumps, three high pressure Banjo Burners and a RIMS with a BCS-460 to control te RIMS process. I use a gravity fed system now with two pots and burner assemblies that hang from my brew lab's ceiling joists. It's a pretty cool, one of a kind system. But as I make more ten gallon batches, I'm more worn out after brewing and in need of more automation. I like the space saving aspect of your system and can't afford the Blichmann one. So I'm wondering if you'll sell one without any burners or propane lines, etc. I have a three way, HPmanifold and heat shields that'll work with your stand. I can MIG weld so adding pump or BCS brackets will be a snap. The price is right too, I just won't pay for anything I won't use. I've been a long time customer of you guys and will continue to be regardless. BrewersHardware.com has a SS single tier brew stand blank, so I'll get it if u can't come down on the price.
William H on Oct 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Right now we only have it set up for sale as advertised including the burners and everything. Not sure about welding your own burners on the stand

that would be cool. I'll pass along the request to see if we can make it happen- right now it does not look like we will be able to. Appreciate you checking it out and the inquiry!
Is there a way to get this without the burners, hoses? I'm already set up for NG, would be nice to have that option.
J C on Oct 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I do not think they sell this without the burners. You could however change out the orifices in each burner to accept natural gas. There are several out there. Maybe your local furnace guy could give you some guidance on that.
"I think that the 19" might be a little too tight for keggles considering they are about 24 inches tall." How accurate is that statement?
L W on Oct 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have the 10 gallons mega pots and these fit perfectly. I do not see keggles fitting on this stand. Too tall and too heavy with water and wort volumes.
How much is involved in swapping out the burners, at least for the boil, to something larger, and what size would be recommended for 5 gal. batches to get a quick boil?
S P on May 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The burners are attached at the bottom with a nut and can be removed pretty easily. The opening will accommodate a burner up to 6" in diameter. The included burners work great for 5 gallon batches but a banjo-style burner could offer increased performance.
