Yep. It's DME alright.
Came in a bag, and weighed exactly what it was supposed to weigh. The yeast seem to be eating it up just fine, although it makes them pretty gassy!

Great DME
I sprung for the more economical 50 pounder. I'm glad I did, makes a great base for almost everything. Very easy to adjust color with specialty grains as desired, or move into partial mashing. I have been using about 5 pounds of this Pilsen and a few pounds of various malts to get a little bit more control on the style I'm shooting toward..I highly recommend going for the bulk bag if you have room to store it. Adding to a partial mash works great and it's very convenient to have some extra DME around for experiments or starters or adding a few more points to the OG.

The best extract for pale-colored beers!
This is my favorite extract for light-colored beers. I recently brewed a 5 gallon batch of Blonde/Golden Ale, designed for my wife to drink during Fall Ð she doesn't like hoppy beers. I used 6lb of this extract, giving an OG of around 1050, boiled 45 mins with 1oz Smaragd hops (4.4%AA) for about 18 IBU, adding a Whirlfloc tablet at 15 mins before end of boil. Fermented 1 week with Wyeast 1056 yeast, one week secondary, bottled with a bit of corn sugar. Both color and flavor were just as hoped for, and the wife likes it a lot! Don't mind a glass myself, come to that.

Awesome stuff for light and modifiable beers!
I read the review about the guy who made a beer for his girlfriend and made what he made. Turned out great! Girlfriend and I both like light, semi-sweet beers like Summer Shandy and Blue Moon. This turned out to be a great regular drinker for the kegerater! Took only 2 hours to make start to clean-up. I'm today trying to repeat it and add a few things like orange peel and coriander to make it similar to that one and a cross with blue moon clone ingredients. It'll be great i'm sure and I can make it after work without all-grain and a whole day :)

Do the 50lb. orders come in one large bag, or smaller packets (3-5lbs.)? If one large bag, and I only use 5-6lbs. at a time, how long will the extract stay good for once opened?

BEST ANSWER: Typically whenever I order grain that totals five pounds or more it arrives in a single bag. I would imagine that DME would likely ship the same way, especially since you are ordering 50lbs. The nice thing about DME is that it stores well, better than grain and even LME. Just put it in a cool dry place and you should get about six months to a year out it.
