Belgian Strong Golden Ale All-Grain Kit

SKU: U1234

Strong, light in color, and dangerously drinkable. 2-stage fermentation and yeast starter.

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts. It is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Patterned after some of Belgium's most unique and famous ales, our kit yields a beer that looks innocent in the glass but packs a delicious wallop. The secret is a high percentage of candi sugar, an easily fermentable sugar that ratchets up the beer's strength while keeping the body light and easy to drink. Smooth mouthfeel, sweet, floral maltinesss, and rich spiciness from hops and yeast. 2-stage fermentation and yeast starter.

Ages incredibly well Review by Stanger
I posted back in 2011 - see below. I brewed this beer again in March of 2012. This time no step mash and the brew day went fine. The beer turned out great but I bottled this time. I just finished the last bottle and it was one of the best Belgian-style beers I think I ever had. It had mellowed incredibly well - all the rough edges were smooth and it was as perfect as any beer I have brewed and most I've bought. If you like Belgians, brew this beet and set some aside to age. You won't be disappointed! (Posted on 9/8/14)
Wow. Unique Review by Matt
This is so unique. When you pour it into the glass, it looks like a jovial, golden party. But when you put it on your lips, a creamy, spicy clamor jumps in. And it is STRONG! If I drink one pint of this, I hafta take a nap! I clock mine at 9.9% abv. Watch out. Sometimes, I am ashamed to say, I will water it down a little. Just sooo ridiculously strong in flavor and ethanol. I was a patient boy and aged it for 4.5 months under 2 psi co2 in a corny keg. I tested it from time to time during aging and it really pays to not rush it. If you do not age it for 4 months, it is so strong in flavor, it tastes like ultra-malty cough syrup. Give it time. Loving the strong feeling Review by Abe
I'm finding out quickly that I like brewing the Belgians. I tried out the Stong Golden and was not disappointed. I take that back, I'm down to only 3 bottles left, so I'm a little disappointed. This has a nice citrus taste to it and it does get stonger with age. I may have missed my numbers by a bit, but I certainly can't taste it. I'll be brewing this again in the future. Amazing! Review by Wicked Impact
As a big fan of the Belgian beers, this has to be the best kit I've ever purchased. You're going to get a beer that looks like a comercial "light beer" but has the Belgian spicy flavor and 9% ABV. This beer reminded me of when I got my first introduction to Belgian beers, in Belgium, oh what a night that was... This is an amazing kit, and will remain in the regular rotation... ORDER THIS ONE!!! (Posted on 8/14/12)
Just gets better with age Review by Luke
A few months after bottling I cracked one open (in December) and it was fairly good. Now (in April) this beer is supreme. It has mellowed to sweet perfection with no alcohol taste at all. This one sneaks-up on you, watch out. (Posted on 4/23/12)
Wow! What a kick Review by Stever
I did the step mashing as well and ended up with a very cloudy wort. It was still very cloudy going into the secondary (like orange juice cloudy). I added some finings which took care of some of it. Bottled and prayed. After two months of conditioning... it came out clear and delicious. Packs a punch! (Posted on 2/18/12)
Closest to style Review by Mikem
I think this kit is the closest to style of anything I have ever brewed, and one of the all around best brews I have made. It was a big hit with all tasters. Only drawback was how fast it disappeared. (Posted on 6/28/11)
Best beer I've brewed in 2 years Review by Stanger
I brewed this beer and tried the step mash for the first time. I use an infusion mash and the process was tough and I wound up with a very thin mash. After that when I pitched my starter it hadn't separated so I pitched almost 2 full liters of starter beer. I thought this would be a mess for sure. After 3 weeks in the primary and a week of cold conditioning I kegged it. I think it is the best beer I have ever brewed. It came out better that I could've imagined even if the brew day went perfectly, let alone a screwy brew day! It has that beautiful Belgian spicy flavor and packs a wallop that you don't expect when you taste it. Phenomenal and I highly recommend it if you like this style. I am now worried that to brew it again I have to deliberately make the same mistakes... (Posted on 5/21/11)
Delicious! Review by Jason
One of the best kits I have tried. Looking forward to a little aging. (Posted on 1/25/11)
Best in years Review by wzl46
I brewed this kit using the traditional multi step mash, and lagered for a few weeks before kegging. If you haven't brewed this one yet, you should. (Posted on 1/3/11)
Surprised Review by Baddgcarma
I was surprised how great this beer turned out. The instructions are excellent and the brew turned out fantastic. This is a brew that you share because its so excellent but then cut everyone off as your supply dwindles. a definate must brew (Posted on 7/2/10)
Worth the Wait! Review by Wolfman
This beer is great, and everybody who gets to try it agrees (though I've stopped sharing since the supply is dwindling). Mine has been aging for more than ten months at this point and it just gets better as the months roll on... I mean, it was really good after four months but an extended aging really smooths this one out. I will brew it again! (Posted on 5/1/10)
