My 7th batch but first extract. Missed my final gravity readings a few points due to a rapid temp drop during fermentation. Initially the beer was just ok. 2 months later conditioning in the keg and it became the go to beer for all my guests. They really loved the flavor and smooth body. I will do this one again and try to get more attenuation from my yeast and may be a regular in my house. I really liked it! (Posted on 4/25/14)

What a nice tasty brew. 1 month in the primary, did not do a secondary. 3 weeks in bottles, and they are golden delicious. I added an extra 8oz of honey, and used 2 smack packs of 1332 into a 1.5L starter. Big kraussen and nice golden color. not very hoppy, so if you like Hops you could add some extra. (Posted on 3/4/14)

I got this for my dad who is new to brewing and when he opened it up he had to call me right away and tell me how great it was. He was very happy with it, especially because he loves honey! Great gift that has that little something extra compared to other kits which makes it such a hit. (Posted on 1/14/14)

Second time I brewed this kit -- great session brew that everyone loves, it goes quick…. but the longer you can wait the better it gets. My last 6 pack was in the bottle almost 5 months and it was the best. I hate it when that happens. I've added some local honey - really comes through nice. (Posted on 1/11/14)

I've brewed this kit 4 times now. I have never had a bad batch. I found a local bee keeper and got some honey off of him and I think it made the beer better. If you can find this I would suggest it. (Posted on 1/5/14)

This kit has to be in the top three of any of the kits I have made. I added 16oz of extra Tupelo honey to the end of the boil. I also carbed the soda keg with 5 oz of honey. I will definitely continue to make this recipe over and over. Just tasty... (Posted on 12/18/13)

Brewed with Windsor yeast. Kept temps at about 65 degrees during fermentation. Took off quick 3-5 days and done with primary fermentation. 2 weeks in primary, two in secondary. Took 4-6 in bottle to really get good but this is a great beer. OG. 1.061 and came out with about 5.5 ABV. Just made another batch with minimal changes as it disappeared way too fast. This will be a go to beer. (Posted on 11/22/13)

My 5 gallons were not enough. The recipe was easy to work with and the results were great. I found that the longer the bottle conditioning the better the flavor. Despite concerns, I think this is a year-round beer, very drinkable. My friends all requested another batch. (Posted on 11/11/13)

First brew ever, and had a great flavor already when coming out of secondary fermentation going into the bottles. Easy recipe and instructions. Also, want to add, I had a couple of questions before I started brewing and sent NB and email.... had an answer back in 4 minutes.... awesome. (Posted on 10/18/13)

Brewed this several months ago- one of my first extraction kits. Used dry yeast, 2 weeks primary, 2 weeks secondary and bottled. After a couple weeks in the bottle the beer was good. Very good. I've now been drinking this for several weeks and it keeps getting better. The flavor is pretty accessible for any beer drinker. I haven't received anything other than positive feedback on what I gave way. Everyone loves it. And don't think the honey makes this a a summer only beer- this is totally drinkable year round. Honey of a beer Review by Robert

Just had to try beer the President drinks. I used the Windsor yeast, which I never used before, and it had me in a puzzle. It was done fermenting, like zero bubbles, in just under five days. Nevertheless, it stayed on the yeast 27 days, then bottled. Only recipe change was an added 4 oz maltodextrin at bottling. The beer turned out smooth, and, as someone mentioned, fruity. Leaning toward a big, raisiny Belgian Pale Ale, with a bow to an English Nut Brown Ale, with a nice lingering aftertaste. The honey? A bit cloudy, so use at least one tsp Irish Moss, or Whirlfloc tab. You will not be dissapointed with this kit. (Posted on 8/14/13)

My 1st batch was kegged and forced carbonated. I enjoyed this beer so much that so far I have made two more batches. One batch went to another keg which is in the fridge and about to be tapped in a couple of days and bottled the third batch which I have put aside to carbonate in the bottles for 3 weeks and will be ready to go July 21st. This beer fits into everyones taste buds. My batches have been comming out with an ABV of 6.2 to 6.3 but does not taste like a beer with a higher alcohol content. Everyone so far loves it and I will be making more of it. (Posted on 7/16/13)

I decided to try the White House Honey Ale during the summer months and I'm certainly glad I did. The honey flavor is strong but doesn't overpower the beer. Very smooth and drinkable, especially on a hot day. I highly recommend this one. If you're on the fence, give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. (Posted on 7/11/13)

I adjusted the hop schedule to use all of the supplied hops (4 oz net), and I was able to get, with a full wort boil (~5.2 gallons), around 37~38 IBU's. I used Wyeast 1272 (American Ale II) in place of the Windsor yeast. The OG was 1.058, and the FG was 1.009~1.010. I ended up with a pseudo EPA ~6.5% ABV. I just couldn't bear the thought of using Windsor yeast. Overall, a tasty beer. (Posted on 6/28/13)

I actually developed my recipe directly from the "ale to the chief" web site, and from there brewed. My wife has a Marine Corps graduation soon so I rushed the fermenting so to speak (1week primary, 1 week secondary). After day seven in the bottle I decided to taste it to see how it was coming along and it was watery, sweet, and an almost dry immature alcohol taste to it. Needless to say I was worried because I have been bragging and getting a bunch of Marine Corps officers excited to taste it. Today, a week later, I tasted again and... wow! I mean this beer went from horrible to complex, smoother tasting and well balanced. So if anyone gets worried just wait, this beer gets better with time! I plan on getting these Marines happily drunk with my beer! (Posted on 6/20/13)

I decided to let the beer sit for 10 more days in the keg and man what a difference it made. This is one smooth sweet tasting beer. The Hoppy Flavor that was so pronounced 10 days ago has almost gone away to where there is just enough "Hops" to know its there. Once again I only used half the hops during brewing. (Posted on 4/22/13)

This was my first kit from Northern Brewer. The more I drink this the more I like it. Followed the instructions to a T with the exception of late extract addition to keep the color on the lighter side. Even doing that it turned out darker then I anticipated. But that said, it's one of my fav beers that I've made so far (only made 4 so far) Just wish the weather would warm up so I could enjoy it on my patio ... Cheers!! (Posted on 4/12/13)

Tasted this beer tonight for the first time out of a keg and it tasted great with lots of flavor, just did not like that hops after taste that came along with it. I'm a beginner brewer and this is my second batch, I really don't like the taste of "Hoppy" beer so I only used half the hops during brewing, wish I would have used .25% instead.
Wondering if in 3 weeks the 12 bottles I did will taste any different than the beer I kegged? (Posted on 4/10/13)
Much Darker Than Expected Review by David
Rating
For a beer with "Honey" in the name, I expected a lighter beer. Much darker than I thought it would be, as well as heavier. That being said, it is good. Took nearly 4 weeks in the bottle to get some carbonation going, and even now at 6 weeks, there isn't too much, but that could just be the beer. Overall, we're enjoying it. I didn't measure OG or SG, but after 3 of them, I could tell there was some alcohol in it! :-D (Posted on 4/8/13)

I've been brewing all-grain for the past 4 years or so, but a friend wanted to try his hand at brewing and I thought that it was time to revisit extract brewing for the occasion. We brewed up this batch to 5.5 gal (2 weeks primary, 1.5 weeks in secondary) and got 6.25%. I also dry hopped (secondary) with the remaining hops left over, and am glad that I've done so. I kegged it last night and have to say that I'm quite looking forward to drinking this one. The green beer is highly drinkable, the finished product should be even better. The dry hops provide a nice complex finish. (Posted on 3/26/13)
Decent Brew, Lacking Complexity Review by Warren

On a 10 pt scale, I'd go with a 7. Don't get me wrong - its good, and very drinkable.... just somewhat average. The recipe was easy to follow and hard to mess up. Mine ended up above 6% alcohol, but despite being in a secondary for 8 weeks, and bottle conditioned for another 7-10 weeks, it still had an overly sweet flavor. The hops palette is rather mellow, as well. If I brew this again (which I will - got this kit again for X-mas as a gift), I'll a certainly add a bit more near the end of the boil.

Ultimately you get a beer that is good at several things, but not really great at anything (except that it would make a great beginner's brew) (Posted on 3/11/13)

Brewed this beer around three months ago. It is really cool that NB offers this kit, I am sure it sells well. I don't regret brewing this recipe, it was fun. Makes a pretty good beer, just not excellent in my opinion. Not trying to come off negative, but I wouldn't brew it again. However, the novelty makes it worth getting. Again, it is a pretty good beer, just didn't blow my mind. 4 stars, worth trying......... (Posted on 1/15/13)

as soon as this kit came out, i wanted to brew it and have it ready for election day. mission accomplished. and to the beer..... nice and malty up front with a nice balanced hop bite and notes of honey. when i brewed this, i swapped out the honey enclosed in the kit with some locally sourced wildflower honey and got a bit heavy handed with it and ended up with a 7.5% beer. even at that, the alcohol is very well hidden. a very nice beer with a story that is a piece of history. you should try it. i,m looking forward to brewing the honey brown next. Delicious! Similar to Raison d'Etre Review by GA Beer Nut

Very good beer and I was surprised to find that it's high-gravity (~7%). To me, it tastes similar to Raison d'Etre, but not as heavy. I think it's more "accessible" and "drinkable" for people than Raison d'Etre, which is one of my favorite beers. (Posted on 1/3/13)

Believe the hype! Review by Daniel

This beer really is as good (or better) as all the hype. Yes, it's a "White House" brew, so that in and of itself is intriguing, but I must say, everyone I've shared this with (mostly the wife and I, but several friends too) have been very, very impressed. The flavors jump out at you, but it's the perfect amount--not too much, certainly not too little. In fact I'm ordering the kit again as it was that good. It's fun to brew something you know the President and his staff are drinking, no matter what your political views! This brew is fantastic! (Posted on 11/15/12)

I brewed this about a month and a half ago. Kegged it like I do most of my brew. It was pretty tasty the day that I kegged it, but sipping on a glass tonight, it seems to be even better. The honey definitely plays a big part in its overall flavor. Seems to add texture, and maybe a little honey sweetness. It's not as dry as I thought it would be, and is chock full of flavor, including toffee, biscuit, honey, and fruity notes. Congrats, Obama, on winning another 4 years, and for this very tasty honey ale. (Posted on 11/11/12)

This beer was very good the flavor was excellent. The beer tasted like most brown ales with it own distinct flavors. The honey and fuggle hops really add to this beer. Very smooth beer that has a nice 6.83% abv. Drank with my buddies and they didn't stop filling their glasses until the keg was empty. I used the liquid wyeast starter in which the wort started fermenting really quick and strong. I will order this kit again. (Posted on 10/26/12)

This is definitely a good'un! Very distinct flavors that really doesn't remind me of anything else I have ever had. Super tasty and leaves you wanting another cool glass. The description says biscuit and toffee, maybe that's what I'm tasting, but when I asked a friend their take on the flavor they just said "it's fu***** delicious!" I went with the dry yeast; quick rehydrate and in they went. Fermentation started fast and finished in about 3-5 days. Due to my keg rotation it went into a secondary for a few weeks and ended up with a nice clear beer. Prost! (Posted on 10/25/12)
