Why choose brown glass bottles?
The beer bottle glass color you choose for your homebrew will greatly impact its taste. Dark amber or brown glass greatly reduces UV light from spoiling the beer. Sure, any colored glass beer bottles filter out both visible and ultraviolet light. Brown glass blocks out more light than green, making it the optimal choice for bottling homebrew. Dark beers also absorb more light than light beers, making it essential to store stouts, bocks, and the like in brown bottles, while lighter beers can be stored in green bottles.
Since, clear glass beer bottles don't block any light, they are the least desirable choice for long term beer storage, with the exception of any specific beverage whose color was the primary characteristic you were trying to stress, such as a red ale.

Says yes I brew my own, and I do want my bottle back! I have had no problems with these type of bottles, and when u pull a bottle out that has that look it says something about what is inside. (Posted on 5/3/13)Rating - No problems as of yet. Review by Jmgkenobi

All 12 held their seals, everything carbed nicely. No explosions. May get another 12 in the future. (Posted on 3/18/13)Rating - love these Review by Randy

I bought this bottles with caution because of a previous comment about the caps not sealing properly. First I bought one case and had no problems at all. Then I bought the second case and as with the first didn't have any problems either. For piece of mind I asked what would happen if you had problems with the cap ensemble, they told me they have replacement parts for the whole thing at the store at the store, whether you need only seal gaskets or caps or the locking mechanism. So far, I have had no problems at all. (Posted on 8/2/12)Rating - Excellent bottles Review by Rachel

I ordered several cases of these when I first got serious about good equipment. I've bottled 4 different batches in them so far and have yet to have a single bottle fail to seal. A four pack of these makes a great gift and the unusual nature of the bottles seems to help remind people to return them after drinking. Note that replacement seals are very inexpensive. I plan to replace mine after every 6 batches or so. (Posted on 6/9/12)Rating - How awful Review by Dons

Okay, I paid for these and had them shipped to me - no small cost. Turns out the first time that I used them - 8 of the 12 bottles did not hold a seal and I had to throw away the beer. I'm not pleased at all, as you might imagine. (Posted on 8/16/11)Rating - Definitely Recommend Review by Daniel

I love these bottles. They make capping you bottles so much easier. An unanticipated side effect for me was that you can open a beer, pour some out, re-cap, and the beer stayed carbonated. Received several compliments from people who tried my beer on the bottles. Oh and brown bottles are better than clear bottles as they keep light away from the beer. I've been using them for experimenting with making ginger beer in small batches. Great for a couple extra bottles for testing carbonation with beer, or being able to cap a bottle between pours to preserve carbonation. I only knocked off a star because out of the 8 I've used and tested, 2 were leaking from the grommet. (Posted on 6/16/11)Rating
