Yeast Notice

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts. It is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Is there enough yeast in 1 packet for a 5 gallon batch?
Lyle O on Jul 6, 2015
Best Answer: The packet is rated for up to 5 gallons of 1.060 wort. Any thing higher in volume, it would be a good idea to add additional yeast.

Is this as good as liquid yeast?
A shopper on Nov 7, 2014
Best Answer: Dry yeast can make beer every bit as good as liquid yeast, especially this strain which is equivalent to both Wyeast 1056 American Ale and White Labs California Ale.

Do I need to rehydrate?
A shopper on Nov 7, 2014
Best Answer: This is a heavily debated topic, but we recommend you just pitch it right in to the cooled wort. When rehydrating there is a risk of the water being too hot and killing the yeast, where there is no such risk with adding it directly. Pitching yeast directly may cause a little stress for the yeast, but it will save you a lot of stress in the end.

I smacked the packet but my yeast is not inflating, why?
A shopper on Nov 7, 2014
Best Answer: Don't worry, dry yeast does not come in a smack pack like Wyeast. No activation is needed. Smacking it will only make your hand sore.
