Best Kit available!
This was my first small batch kit and I could not have been happier with the results. It is well organized, well though out and arrived with excellent instructions. Great value too, compared to others I looked at. I only wish it had come with the small big mouth since the 1gal jug is too small for the aggressive fermenters like the DIPA, IIPA and the Bourbon Porter I've made thus far. I opted to just buy 3gal carboys and that has worked out perfect! No mess but better than that, no lost beer. Northern Brewer is the best!

A good addition to your starter kit
As a brand new brewer I wanted to start with all new equipment and this kit seemed like just the thing. The kettle is nicely made and just the right size to hold your 1.25 gallons of water and ingredients. The brushes have both come in handy for cleaning the fermenting jug of the foam that stuck to the top of the jug. I've yet to use the funnel for anything as we've used the tubing for moving liquid from kettle to jug and jug to bottle. My only complaint is the holder. It does not fit into the mouth of the jug which is the one use it would be good for! I really don't see a reason to use it with the kettle.

Helps to get the job done right!
I picked this up because I didn't have a kettle and figured I would need the other equipement anyway. The kettle is pretty sturdy and is perfect for 1 gallon batches. The brushes get the job done for those hard to reach places in the fermenting just as well as cleaning bottles. I can't say I've used the funnel yet, but it seems to be pretty solid and not just some cheap item they threw in the kit. Same goes for the clamp.I would definitely suggest this kit to anyone starting with small batch brewing who either needs the equipment or wants to get the job done right!

Good kit but...
Not as useful with the big mouth bubblers. I purchased this upgrade with my Go Pro small Batch starter kit because I didn't know what I didn't know. The Big Mouth means there is no need for the carboy brush or the funnel. The pot is very nice though and the auto siphon has come in handy as I am doing my brews on my own.If you have a regular carboy I can see this being a must have 5-star item. If you are Going Pro with you starter (and you should!) Then buy the pot and siphon holder and don't worry about the rest.

Is the kettle single bottom or tri bottom ???
G C on Jan 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The bottom is single layer stainless steel. Just keep an eye on your temps so not to over shoot your numbers or scorch your wort. Nice but thin, don't be to rough with it but what do you expect from a low priced china pot. It a nice kit for the price. I bought 2 of these as a supplemental gifts to a small batch stater kits given as Christmas gifts to my Dad and Bro in-law. I'm a home brewer and wish I had all this stuff in my first kit. Great supplement to to the small batch kit. Would not hesitate to purchase again.
Does the kettle come with a lid ???? Glass or ss steel ???
G C on Jan 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The kettle comes with a steel lid.
I recently purchased the nut brown ale extract kit for a family member, but didn't realize that the tools for brewing were not included! Now I'm trying to figure out what he will need to brew his first beer, and I'm wondering if this package would do the trick? Or would I need to purchase a starter kit? (The only problem is that he doesn't need another beer recipe - he already has the nut brown ale - he just needs the equipment.) Can anyone advise as to what I should purchase so he can brew his first batch?
Thanks!
A B on Dec 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: 1) was the nut brown recipe a 1gallon recipe (it will be called out if it is, if it isn't called out it is probably a full sized recipe)
- The kit you linked is for 1 gallon batches, so if the recipe is for the full sized batch then no, that kit will not work
2) if it is a 1gallon recipe then this kit is a good start, but you would be missing some essentials, most importantly some sort of fermenter and tubing. If you have a 1 gallon jug for fermenting and some tubing then you can get the job done at the most basic level (for brewing, when it comes to bottling day you will need some more equipment)

I'm not recommending you buy this, but look at this kit for a list of ideas that would round out everything that you do need to get started.

Also, another recipe on hand is not a terrible thing to have either. Speaking from experience, once you brew your first batch, you really want to keep brewing, making the above linked Kit all the more valuable
Does the funnel include a screen? What are the dimensions of the kettle?
M C on Mar 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The funnel does not include a screen. The kettle is roughly 9" in diameter and 8" tall.
